the difference is that at least some of those songs are good. maybe not exactly original, but good.

a lot makes a song aside from chords. what makes the good ones different is that they don't sound the same despite the chords being the same, whereas your shitty manufactured pop is distinctly samey.

I enjoy the music because it's catchy and fun to sing along to. Even if it is all just the same basic track.

Because those 4 chords are kinda pleasing to the ears?

it's like the circle of fifths, it normally sounds good to switch between Bb to Eb or Eb to Ab or Bb-Eb-Bb-Fb.

I know what you mean though: almost every song has those 4 chords, there's no originality...well you can change that when you become a rock star, right?

I mean when I tried playing bass notes for some of those songs they were singing parts of, I found it easy to make some stuff up because of the same four chords, but that becomes a problem if I keep on playing those same four chord-notes on every single song.

IMHO worse than those 4 chords is the typical Tonic - Dominant - Sub-Dominant scheme.

I actually like pop music. There is nothing wrong with music that is cheery and fun to listen to.

one of the main reasons i dont like pop is because all these annoying girls like to ask me if i like lil wheezy or whoever the fuck else there is. the fact that its so mainstream is annoying to me. then of course i just plain dont like it anyway.
