first off, I have one a Netgear Wg11v2 USB wireless adapter that I use for my desktop. I uninstalled the software that came with it, because it would always disconnect randomly. Now that I just use the wireless manager in windows 7 it doesn't happen anymore. However, after its been plugged in for a while, it gets hot and the device turns off. So I unplug it for a while and let it cool down, then plug it back in. Problem is, the device refuses to start up again, windows just wont recognize it at all, until I restart the machine. Then it works fine again.
Anyone know why that would happen or how I can get windows to recognize the device?
Also, whenever I shut down or restart my computer, it gets to the "Windows is shutting down" screen but just stays there and wont shut down. I end up having to manually force shut down every time. I've never had the patience to see if it ever actually shuts down, I've waited 30 min or so and it still didn't.
Any suggestions?

When you remove it, do you to the "Remove USB device safely" stuff?

Smart people ^_^..
The reason it could highly impact you, is because the adapter is in use all the time, even when your not using the internet. Its doing its own thing in the background. Thumb drives, generally when your not using the file, or reading/writing to it, its not in use. Therefore if you yank it out, not too much harm can come to it, although I always do it just in case.

Overheats?! How about buying a decent one that doesn't.
The shutdown problem has many reasons.

when you plug it back in, try stopping/starting the windows wireless service. try it before and after you plug it back in. also, taking it apart and giving it a visual once over might not be a bad idea. check for burn marks, or anything else that my pop as "odd". if it's under warranty, exchange it. if not, it might be time to replace it. also, try placing it in an area where it maximizes airflow/cooling.
sorry if that's a little slapped around in ideas, i've been drinking. huzzah.

I've had other ones of the same kind and they did it too. I'm not too worried about it tbh. I have 100ft ethernet I'm gonna run through the attic once it stops being so goddam hot here.
I'm more concerned with the shutting down thing.

No idea about your computer doing weird things while shutting down. However, I've also experienced the issue with the wireless usb device overheating and then turning off. Mine does that all the time- I bought a new one from a totally different company, and it doesn't overheat, but still experiences odd outages at times. My current one is the Netgear WNA1100 Wireless-N USB Adapter. It's a good choice for a replacement if you need one.
