In the United States, a new law proposal called The Combating Online Infringement and Counterfeits Act (COICA) was introduced last week, and there will be a hearing in front of the Judiciary Committee this Thursday.
If passed, this law will allow the government, under the command of the media companies, to censor the internet as they see fit, like China and Iran do, with the difference that the sites they decide to censor will be completely removed from the internet and not just in the US.
I cant say how accurate this is, because I got it in a text message, but it seems so.

Read through a bunch of that bullshit and it seems they'd be targeting sites like piratebay and etc. It's obvious the net will not always be like it is now just downloading whatever you want but I don't know about this one passing. I'd also like to know their stance on sites distributing things such as animes that aren't licensed in America.

In the end it'd be funny to see their plan backfire on them in some way. Lots of legit buyers, even more so for video games, like to test out what they'll be buying before purchasing it by torrenting it, and if that is gone big name companies might lose out on sales.

No, the era of a company owning its software they want to sell without letting people try it out or they do and it's super expensive is over... the companies will learn to cope or go out of business, given enough time.

I'd like to just point out how humourous it is that for once they just come out and say it "We're targeting copyright infringement".

Not piracy (which "piracy" is not piracy), not theft, not child pornography, not terrorism... copyright infringement.

Business needs to get smarter in their business models... not stuck in the attempt to influence the world in a vain hope to perpetuate their existing business model.

And no that doesn't mean embrace streaming and such... there's hundreds of means to a good end... ... they need to adapt to the means available to them at the time... and evolve with the time.
