Microtransactions invade Team Fortress 2

Valve introduces payment scheme to acquire in-game items for its popular online multiplayer shooter.


Valve, which announced today that it has introduced microtransactions to its well-regarded online multiplayer shooter Team Fortress 2. Available now through the PC version of the game, the Mann Co. in-game store allows gamers to spend real-world cash on in-game items. The first pack includes 65 new items, ranging from weapons kits for the soldier, sniper, scout, pyro, and spy to new hats.

Somewhere in the article it says that Valve said you are still able to acquire all weapon kits and the like without paying for anything. I wonder how long it would take to earn it, though.

Why are people so upset about this? You can still find every item. With 120 free major content updates in three years you'd think people wouldn't care so much.

It's not like we had to pay 15 dollars to get the store.

I just noticed that some of the things are a bit pricey.

Yeah. The scout's "hatless" hat is $10. No one even really LIKES the hatless ones.... so why have them so expensive?!

Also, I am not content with the Mann Co Store for ONE REASON. I bought the key last night (I found a storage chest, figured I'd sweep the Mann Co hat while I was at it), but I don't think it has been placed in my inventory yet due to the store going down at the very moment I authorized the purchase.

A pop up said, "Your item will be given to you at a later date."

LATER DATE? I WANT IT NOW. :\

All the other hatless hats are $2.49 what makes ths scout so d*ng special

I got my items instantly from the Mann Co store even though it said it was down the first few times I tried to buy them (wouldn't authorize), guess Gaben is personally trolling you

At first I hated my bald engie hat. But with the new description, it now makes me smile.

I posted a thread about it just to make sure that I was not the only one who had that problem. o__O it makes me feel better if I know that someone is in the same boat as me.

I filed a support ticket, I can only hope to hear back and get the item I purchased.
