Okay, whos had experience with this, would you recommend it and also how easy is it to make a custom design (template) for the site?

I agree, but it is quite powerful. If you are willing to take a few hours to sit down and set up a site, then I would recommend it. I haven't design templates for it though, but there are an excessive amount of those on the web to look at as examples.
