View Full Version : [Help] Graphic Card issues

So for boxing day I bought a new Graphic card for one of my computers. It's an Asus EAH5870. The one I had was an on board graphic card. Problem is, when I hook up the new graphic card, nothing gets displayed. I tried the graphic card on 2 different computers, 3 different screens, and 2 types of power converters for an 8 pin to make sure it wasn't the problem.
It has only 2 types of screen outputs, HDMI and DVI. I used both on all the screens (for the ones that didnt have HDMI, I used the converter that came with the graphic card). I even used VGA and converted that to DVI.
So far I know that the problem isn't with the screens, power supply, or external wires. Its either my computer specs (Which I highly doubt) or the graphic card came DOA (Dead On Arival.)
Here are some specs of the computer:
OS: Windows Vista Ultimate
Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad CPU @ 2.66GHz (4 CPUs), ~2.7 GHz
Memory: 4060MB RAM
DirectX: 10
Motherboard: P5G43T-M PRO
Specs on the Asus EAH5870:

I have only a couple of days left to RMA it. If they make it work, I have to pay a restocking fee, so I need to explore all options. Any help would be great!

Question: Does the fan turn on when you power on your computer? If not confirmed DOA.
If yes, Try booting with your intergraded video and messing with your video settings in Windows while the card is in.
I had a ATI do some weird shit like this before, and that helped.
But from what you have tried, I think you nailed it on the head. It's DOA

Sounds like it's DOA unless all the BIO's on all the PC's you've tried are set to display from the integrated card only. Check that and if it still doesn't work get it exchanged.
You shouldn't have to pay a restocking fee for a DOA card, especially if you're getting a replacement. If you do, you've bought from a really shitty retailer.

Its from NCIX. The other 2 computers I have tested do not have on board graphic cards.
Also, they only charge me a restocking fee if they test it and find it works. Thats why I need to make sure I am not missing anything.
Thanks for the help guys. So far no luck though. Posted on asus forums too and nothing. Ohwell, guess its going back.

NCIX shouldn't be to dicky about it. Call them if you have issues.
Then again, they broke one of the last remaining new monitor models for sale anywhere online in North America when I ordered from them... This was back when I only had a single Samsung 245B and wanted two more, which they had in-stock. I ordered them both and they broke one in the warehouse, epic fail.

I remember when you posted about this. Sort of made me mad that they would fuck up such a perfect set. Oh well, life isn't fair hahahaha

At first I thought the power supply didn't have enough juice to power the card, which is especially a possibility if you needed an adapter since it didn't have any PCI-E power connectors. However, if you are getting absolutely NOTHING, not even an error message in red text, then the card is DOA.
Also, depending on how "smart" your computers are, you may need to edit the BIOS configuration to use PCI-E video instead of integrated. Most I've seen will automatically switch to PCI-E if it detects a card, but it doesn't work the other way around.

Card is DOA. Had the same problem tonight when fixing a friend's computer. Bought an HD6850, plugged it in, no dice at all. It would at least show up in device manager if it were working, but it didn't even show there.

Yea. Sent it in as DOA, hopefully they find it not working as I did.
