I ask myself the same question. I rather see Read Dead on PC than LA Noire.

Well, seeing as how LA Noire was only published by Rockstar, not developed, you can't really compare the games and their ported-ness.
Also, LA Noire needs more fucking free roaming ability :|. I just want to run around with a tommy gun, shooting mindless 1940s people sometimes, come on :|

yeah really, this^. there is the free-roam option from the cases menu, but thats hardly entertaining. all you can do is drive around, find cars, replay street crime cases, and find monuments... oh and probably that badge persuit thing too, but i have no idea where to even start looking without just whoring some online guide. you can keep the street crime missions, but just add in random smaller crimes like in red dead when youd see people on the side of the road. like purse snatchings or something, idfk.
its a great game, but youre right korn, its definitely lacking in the free-roam field. they've got this big beautiful city they've created, and you only use a small part of it for the story.

Yeah, they're feeding into the "srs bsns" crowd way too much. Would have been awesome for them to add sandbox configurations. Eg, pedestrian/car density, what guns are in your trunk, etc. That, at least, provides replayability. Maybe even a few clown cars. Not actual clown cars, but cars which don't fit into the 1940s at all. Eg, some super fast sports car. Then you could turn peds/cars off, and just go zooming around LA. I mean, come on.
I'm basically imagining Crackdown 2's "keys to the city" but in LA Noire. That's something they should have done. At least as an award for beating the game, or 100% :\
As far as badges go, I've only seen them in and around landmarks. I found two while investigating the landmarks with the letters/clues.

I wonder if the engine will allow for mods. That will open up the game a bit more.

Yeah games like this are only worth playing on PC if I can have mods, especially custom car models. Literally every single vehicle in my installations of GTA titles has been replaced by real life models. same thing with the first Mafia.
Played the console version, was fun but it feels quite restrictive and disappointing that the open world doesn't actually exist. Had similar feelings about Mafia II

you can mod mafia 1? i think i just figured out what im going to do today. and yeah i felt that way about mafia 2 as well. i think if you took mafia 2's gameplay mechanics with the shooting and the attention to detail (fully animated weapon models in 3rd person), mixed it with LA noire's case questioning mission thing, and added more free-roam elements, add a BAR and an MG-42 as wieldable weapons, and youve got yourself a damn good game. you could almost do it halo 2 style where some missions are mafia missions and the others are cop missions.

Yep, Mafia I can be modded with custom skins and especially car models. It may sound silly to drive 21st century cars in that game, but it's still fun.
Did anyone else keep wishing they could just wander around and blow shit up for fun during LA Noire? It was hard not to keep yearning for that, this being a Rockstar game. Yeah you may be playing as a cop but other cop open world games like True Crime allow that (at the expense of score/reputation/etc). Who hasn't fired up GTA and immediately activated the cheat codes for some mindless mayhem?

Omg, Team Bondi != Rockstar.
I knew this game would not have a the riot type free roam you talk about, although I do wish you could like go to an army camp and practice your skills in things.

They have all of the pieces of a M rated title (including nudity!) except for mindless shootouts. I am disappoint.
Also, it's really complete bullshit that restarting a case also reverts any street crimes you've done while on the case. Fuck you.
