Is this the software (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3D_Movie_Maker) they used for that?

I think I skipped a heart beat when I read the topic title.

The visuals wouldnt look so bad if it had decent lighting, that said its utter shit.

Typical British low production value television. All of the UK programs I have ever watched always started off looking like utter shit until they got popular and improved. Even Doctor Who in 2005 looked like crap.

Dr Who CGI was fine for 2005 direct to TV. Find me any other show using CGI at that time that looked any better (you can't)

The early Atlantis CGI wasn't that great but fair enough.

Battlestar Galactica. Firefly did better even earlier. Do I win? Just about any Canadian/American big-name show using CGI had/still has better CGI than Doctor Who.

Don't get me wrong, though. Doctor Who is still my favourite show to watch.

On second thought, which Era are we talking off?
Doctor who has been around since 1963 so if this is some kind of circle jerk on who did what first, Doctor who is definitely in there for one of the first, albeit not in terms of CGI.
[Rememberance of the Daleks will always be the best Dalek episode second only to Genesis of the Daleks..]

It's about quality of special effects (and cameras/lighting) in TV shows. I was just saying that this thing looks to me like typical British TV: it has a low production value and the special effects reflect that. Doctor Who has had terrible CG throughout most of its life, even for its time; good storytelling is what has kept it alive. Compared to shows like Battlestar Galactica and Firefly, the new series of Doctor Who (2005-present) had mediocre CG on its start-up as well.

It's not about who did what first, it's just about who does it better. I watch BBC quite a bit, and most of the programs look come off as chintzy; I watch them for their content, though, not their visuals. It's like playing an old or casual (read: tetris) game: I play it because it's fun, not because it's pretty.
