So I've left my PC on for a bit, went to watch the TV in the other room and noticed a distinct smell of hot/burning plastic.

I came back to the room and saw the PC turned off, and the smell was very strong inside the room.

When I tried to turn it on, there was no sound of fans spinning, no video, no life signs, just a single light on the front of the case.
The CPU's heatsink and the PSU were hot.
I had problems with the PSU before, but never something like this before.
I just hope nothing serious happened to the PC....

Well you can turning it on again after it cools down to see if anything's changed. If I'm not mistaken, computers normally shut themselves off once they get too hot to prevent damage.

Normally fans would still be spinning if the CPU shuts off due to heat. You should just try swapping out the PSU and take it from there...

Already tried turning it on, it's totally cool and still does that. Don't have a spare PSU, but it's still under warranty.

This happened to me in October of 2009. It was the PSU. Replaced it.

Lesson for the future: Don't fuck around with PSU problems. If that thing's having issues replace it immediately because it can and will kill your PC.

Agreed, I've also had similar experiences. It's likely your PSU. Replace it with a Corsair.

Guess what was the problem?

The motherboard. :p
It's replaced. Also, the PSU is fixed, and I got 2x2 gigs of RAM (had 2x1 before).

So thanks everyone for the tips. -locked-
