View Full Version : The eternal question: Pizza - fatty junkfood or vegetable?

US Congress rules that pizza is a vegetable
American lawmakers have ruled that the amount of tomato paste in pizza sauce means that pizzas can be counted as a vegetable.

How is it that a government can be so blatantly manipulated by a small group of people???

Man, I'm glad they finally straightened this out. There are a lot of pressing issues facing this country, but this one was at the top of the list. Thanks, Congress.

And yet the most ironic part is that tomatoes aren't vegetables.

I'm surprised it wasn't already classified as a vegetable.

I'm fine with this actually. Schools often fill their vegetable requirement with tater tots and french fries. Pizza is a step up nutritionally (not saying much). But it was already so ubiquitous in lunch programs; it's hard to imagine MORE pizza being served.

I'm sure Jamie Oliver is just beside himself right now.

If I'm not mistaken, french fries are still on the menu. French fries and pizza and milk for everyone!

So about this child obesity problem. It obviously must be McDonald's fault :maddowns:!

So about this child obesity problem. It obviously must be McDonald's fault :maddowns:!Yeah, but kids are assholes who won't eat anything that isn't horrible for them. It isn't as simple as putting a salad in front of them.

How's that anti-obesity pill coming? (http://www.thirdage.com/news/weight-loss-drug-passes-monkey-trial_11-15-2011)

Kornman00

It may not be as simple as that but it's pretty simple for companies to lobby Congress to continue to sit on their ass and continue to allow the same shit happen on a different day. One of these things has to change. Because then the other will should too

What's that? Preaching to the choir? Oh sry

e: also, so what if kids get butt hurt from healthier lunches? Tough cookies. Or I guess in their case, no cookies

As the fattest person on this forum, I feel I have to speak up.

Pizza as a vegetable just makes my life simpler. For years I have had to fill out my food pyramid the hard way while having no natural metabolism of any kind. Now its easy and cheaper. Thanks America.

I'm gonna go lift some weights.

Pizza as a vegetable just makes my life complicated. For years I have had to fill out my (inverted) food pyramid the hard way while having a metabolism equivalent to that of a supermassive black hole. Now its harder trying to compensate. Ffffff America.

I'm gonna go eat half a tub of ice cream.

Pretty sure they mentioned Pizza as an example (they were certainly lobbied by the frozen pizza industry). At any rate, pizza qualfies for those 2 tablespoons of sauce (not per mass or volume or anything, just 2 total).
