What kind of archaic computer are you using that you have performance issues with Aero? My mom's old Lenovo R60 runs the Aero interface just fine, but it's still slow as hell at loading programs and the such. After checking the resource monitor I've noted that explorer.exe and the desktop window manager together only take up 35MB of RAM and hardly any CPU usage. That's barely anything.

Oh well, the non-aero tasbar still looks nice if you adjust the colours. You don't have to revert back to classic if you or your apps don't like aero, just use basic instead.

I think the artist got carried away with what he was doing, though. You could also replace your entire interface to look almost exactly like XP using the Luna port (http://browse.deviantart.com/customization/skins/windows7/visualstyle/?qh=&section=&q=windows+xp#/d29jj6z) for Windows 7.

So apparently, I'm the go-to guy when my family doesn't want their old computers. Fine by me, I don't mind. Maybe I can sell them or something. Anyways, my latest inherited machine is an HP laptop. With a 1.8Ghz processor, 512 MB of ram, and 60GB of HDD space, you can see I'm not proud. Maybe I'll look into seeing how hard it is to replace some of this stuff and the cost. The most resource intensive process on my system is Folding@Home which stands at around 400Mb, everything else is around 100 or less, I'm running a hacked up version though so my performance might be different to the version found in Vista.

@Zeph, yes it works in Win7, it's what I'm running now, you will need to install a few files though for it to work but that takes a minute or two.

Well, it's now May and I just remembered to change my background. I was browsing Deviant Art about 20 minutes ago and decided to try out a new theme (Premiere) for Windows 7. It's a bit darker and more Windows 8-esque than I like, but it goes well with the desktop I picked out for May a week ago:

Some parts of the theme do not function well with dark backgrounds or do not highlight options that you would expect they would (minimize, maximize, close window), but I'll use it for a bit and see if it grows on me. Shine 2.0 will always be my favourite, though.
