Police forces in England and Wales are accepting bids from private firms (http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2012/mar/02/police-privatisation-security-firms-crime) that would handle a wide range of services previously conducted by police.
The Guardian has posted the 26-page contract (http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/interactive/2012/mar/02/contract-note-bidders-police-services) that has been sent to bidders, which states that the private forces may be able to carry out all services that "can be legally delegated to the private sector."
This means private security firms could potentially have a hand in:
• investigating crimes
• detaining suspects
• developing cases
• responding to and investigating incidents
• supporting victims and witnesses
• managing high-risk individuals
• patrolling neighbourhoods
• managing intelligence
• managing engagement with the public
• managing forensics
• providing legal services
• managing the vehicle fleet
• finance and human resources

'yeah, using cctv on main streets or major trouble spots is fine'
'cctv is okay'
'cameras in peoples' houses by order of social services? yeah sure'

it's really not at all
i, for one, do not like the idea that someone can work out where i am, where i've been, and when. i don't do illegal shit but that doesn't mean i should just happily waive my right to privacy. "you have nothing to fear if you've done nothing wrong" is a load of shit and has been used to strip way too much privacy and too many rights from people.

They privatised wheelclamping and look how fucked up that system is. People having to pay hundreds of pounds to get their car back when they were parked legally. What a shambles.

Well, the way I see it when you have drones in use what you're looking for is crimes in action, much like a live feed satellite image. The LAPD used helicopters for the same purpose during the crime epidemic of the late 1980s-early 90s. The problem I really see with it is that crime in America is at its lowest since the 1950s. So yeah, its really not necessary, and in times like these its a huge waste of resources unless they are spying on everybody.
My thing about the spying stuff is that, here in Oregon/Washington/the American Northwest, I doubt anyone is doing anything they would give a fuck about. Plus, the territory is so huge that its easy for stuff to get lost in the shuffle around here. Basically, I call East Coast problem.
PACIFICA PLAN!!!

here's the thing about allowing surveillance like that. police helicopters have to be crewed, fuelled, maintained; they can't be everywhere all the time. drones can. you are literally being watched everywhere you go, no matter what.
before long, people get used to losing their privacy, and begin to support even more surveillance because THINK ABOUT ARE CHILDREN. before you know which way is up, there are cameras on your street, outside your front yard, and inside your home.

I doubt that I personally am though. I'm just a piss ant. My life is meaningless other than to myself. No GF, no job, nothing. Thats why I have my doubts. If it turned out to be true, I'd be more mad about the waste of resources than about the privacy issues.

you should be mad about it on principle. if your neighbour was able to see you wherever you go, would that make you angry?

Not particularly. Theyd probably be pretty bored. It would be a huge waste of their time.

don't be apathetic. apathy is literally the worst fucking thing and is the reason the same shit keeps happening over and over again.

This matters to Alot of people, alot of peopledont want this, you might not give a shit, but atleast support your fellow man.
you have literally nothing to loose by helping people that dont want this to fend it off.

I totally agree with this. I am not saying I support it, nor do I think its as much of an issue as others. But when push comes to shove, I side with the people who don't want it. Ross, admittedly I am apathetic. I don't think my voice matters worth shit in this world, and I don't think that I can personally change that. But if it came down to a movement that could change it, I would throw my hat in.

movements that can change things don't just magically appear, they need people to form them, to support them, and to spread their message. even telling people on the internet about things is more useful than total apathy. if you would throw in against it under the right conditions, why not do it under any conditions?

I'm having a hard time explaining it, but basically I feel like the times I have cared about things they always fucking turned around and shit all over me (politically I mean). Like I said, my apathy stems from the fact that I feel a lack of voice in this country, not because I legitimately don't care. I'd be very welcome to working towards serious change if anyone else were, but it seems like most here are just talkers, and nobody is a doer. I'd rather not give a fuck than talk a huge game about changing the world and then doing absolutely nothing about it.
Basically there are very few who do anything, and I'm more of a bandwagon guy tbqh.
