Yes, I'm a day late, but life has gotten a bit hectic. But, I'm back on my annual trip to wish Halo CE a very happy (belated) 8th birthday! Yes, 5/5/04 was EIGHT YEARS AGO.
That means, kids born when we were all fragging each other on Bloodislands and WartornCove are now in the 3rd or 4th grade.
I would propose a birthday bash, but unfortunately I don't have the time to organize or participate, so I will leave that up to you if you feel so inclined.
But, for a bit of nostalgia, I remember when CE was first released. I was working on a big science project at the end of 8th grade, and had to join the scene about 2 days late. Since that day, I have graduated from middle school, high school, and college; found a professional job as an IT business analyst, and got hitched about a month ago. It has been awe-inspiring to watch Halo CE grow, die, rise from its own ashes, and evolve into something truly timeless and unending.
Where have the last 8 years taken you?

Into a downward spiral of self hatred and posting bad youtube videos on the internet while talking shit on the modacity IRC channel.

Absolutely nothing. I was one of those drooling 3rd and 4th graders when it came out. Nonetheless, ce's dying community is still nice :allears:

got into halo ce in 2005, and became an active forum member in 2006. now in 2012, im about to finish my first year of college in a game design program. ive met some people along the way that i consider close friends now. all in all, id say halo has been a good experience for me :iamafag:
E: also, halo was what eventually got me into PC gaming, which, as we all know, is superior to other gaming.

I started playing Halo CE in that time of your life where you have no idea wtf you want to be when your older and you think those "adult decisions" should never arrive and you can play all day every day.
It's been a mad 8 years, my favourite (PC) gaming moments have been on custom Halo maps.
Halo has helped guide my career, it was a stepping stone into a college diploma and then a university degree in games dev. I still remember the first time I saw Halo PC mods, it was a warthog flying around the map and I was awe-struck. I remember checking out all the hog mods for rims and flaming textures and remembering "Oooh I want to find out how to do that".
I forgot the anniversary was coming up, had planned to do something for it. Guess thats a little too late now, maybe 9th year!
I leave this with you, a review I spotted about Halo CE PC.
Watching the game run at 1600X1200 left me speechless. Textures are incredibly rich; the lighting is to die for... On the flipside, however, in order to really enjoy Halo, you need a hardcore gaming rig to see any kind of smooth framerate. [Nov 2003, p.95]

Damn, happy birthday HCE. It's been a long 8 years, and a lot of fun along the way. To those who remain in the community, it's been fun working and playing alongside you!
