View Full Version : What scares you guys?

I'm currently thinking about a good antagonist for a story. A scary one to be correct. Me and my friends tend to agree that non-physical beings (such as ghosts) freak people out the most.

To my opinion, a disfigured humanoid creature is the most scariest. The fact of making a disfigured humanoid creature into an apparition makes it scarier since physical power has no effect.

My friends are scared of little girls that are ghosts. Examples such as the grudge and the ring.

So my question is: What physical features or activities of a creature scares you the most?

How are you not banned?

But yes, Insects are freaky too. Amnesia did a great job with having cockroaches climb all over your face.

The type of sadism displayed by Martin in the girl with the dragon tattoo (how he talks about gestures of hope, the fear of offending, etc).

I meant by certain features of a creature. Such as facial features, limbs, etc...Its not about you, its about people in general.

But seeing as this thread went. Almost every ones comments are worthless to me.

Back to the original topic of the thread, things that are overly skinny (holocaust victims) scare the fuck out of me, as does the standard of people who are injured and the wounds are maggoty or rotting. Corpses don't do much to me, but the half butchered living really bother me.

Interesting. I feel the same way. I can't watch any of the holocaust videos without being horrified of all the skinny people. Especially with their rib cage sticking out.

i am a skinny person with my ribs sticking out so it doesn't scare me so much as make me feel a profound sense of sadness for them

If they are depicted with virility betraying their condition, however, and not simply corpses-to-be, the effect can be more profound. Ala Christian Bale in The Machinist.

The left image almost looks like Heath Ledger's joker as far as facial features. Ironic since it's Christian Bale.

I'm not freadked out by people who look like holocaust victims. I know I'm not the only one though. They just don't have as profound of an effect on me I guess.

I can't help but find it amusing, however that the number one thing that scares me is unexpected surprises. Someone/thing frightening appears out of the blue? You can bet I would either piss my pants scared and/or scream like a little girl.

That and the fact that some of the shit in those games is almost believable. TBH I think you'd have to be a crazy not to be scared by stuff like that.

PS. That's real horror btw, not just lame-ass bogeymen.

I guess I'm crazy then. I'd rather live in today's world than a Metro 2033 world.

Then again, each person has their own paranoia. Does it make me crazy that I don't fear snakes and spiders?

Not at all. I had both creatures as pets. My snake wasn't as cool as the tarantula.

They were both adorable though. :3

this is going to sound weird, but driving in cities. it doesnt so much scare me as much as stress me the fuck out, but holy shit, i think my hair actually starts falling out when i try to do that.
E: actually, slightly more geared toward what youre looking for, cities in general. being forced to follow specific paths and what not. every time im in one i feel unsafe and uncomfortable. not like, "oh god oh god im gonna get mugged", but more like theres no sense of freedom, i cant go where i want, i feel lost, i cant see very far in any direction, people always watching me, not knowing where to find a bathroom, etc... its an overall feeling of being oppressed by the environment itself. it freaks me out.
