I know in a citation you put the page number or paragraph location, but what if its a chart or graph?

Do I just put (“Internet Plans”, n.d., Chart)???

Here is the source:

Something along this lines of "(General Communications Ltd., 2012)" should do the trick, assuming that's the name of the company.

Well the source in APA is:

Internet Plans & Features | GCI. (n.d.). GCI. Retrieved October 8, 2012, from http://www.gci.com/internet/plans-features

I believe you don't state the companies name in the in-text citation, you only state the title of the article or page. There isn't a publication date for the web site so I would put n.d. My only question is how do I present the chart in the citation?

For example: For page number it would be: (“Internet Plans”, n.d., p. 1). For no page number, you would state the paragraph: (“Internet Plans”, n.d., para. 1). But this isn't a page or paragraph I'm describing as my source, it is a chart.

Thanks for the input though. Our Tech writing teacher gave us a lot of heat for our citations on our last paper.

Citations suck. I tend to avoid website references when I can :\. This is what my uni has to say on the matter: http://library.canterbury.ac.nz/services/ref/apa/web.shtml but from my experience every lecturer has a different idea on what is and isn't an in-line APA reference.

Hmph. You may by right about the (title, date) format.

I think the best bet would be to ask my instructor tomorrow. The paper isn't due until 12am wednesday, which is awesome. Thanks for the help Timo.

I'm not sure what APA citation actually means; we had to use Harvard referencing. This may not be any help to you but heres the PDF I refered to when I had to do my referencing.

(http://portal.solent.ac.uk/library/help/factsheets/resources/referencing-harvard.pdf)http://portal.solent.ac.uk/library/help/factsheets/resources/referencing-harvard.pdf

Also, go to page 6 of this website: http://lib.tsinghua.edu.cn/service/harvard-referencing.pdf and it mentions a graph.

To be honest, I would count that as a website reference, rather than a table reference. Mainly because the media used is the web, and the most important reason for different types of references are how updatable they are. A book can have issues and be reprinted, so you need to mention what book and edition, a website however can be easily updated, with no real 'paper-trail' for people so see. That table can be easily updated, so I would reference it as a website. Made sure you include what date you accessed it/screenshoted it etc.

Can't you just (Chart 1/Fig. 1) and then, under the chart put: Title of chart (title of web PAGE (not site), date)?

I think he's just referencing information from the table, not putting into the report.

oh.. I recently referenced both a Figure from a journal and a website in a research proposal. however, the website was an .edu written by a Phd. so it was as simple as (name, date).

(webpage, date) probably still applies and using "According to..." in text would be an less desirable solution.
