I'm having some issue doing this on 3ds max 9. The description on the help isn't really being very useful.

To install the .ass Exporter
1. Start 3ds Max.
2. Click Configure User Paths on the Customize menu, click 3rd Party Plugins, and then click Add.
3. Navigate to your Halo 2 tools folder.
4. Type Halo 2 in the Label Type box, click Use Path, and then click Okay.

I don't know where the halo tools folder is. Can someone be a little more descriptive on the instructions.

It is only compatible with 3ds max 8.

If you installed it in the default path it would be this:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo 2 Map Editor

Then..whats nice..is when you go to export..it takes you to that folder..instead of browsing to it every time.

I'll make a script that works with Max 9.

You better! I was excited to start mapping some levels right now. I started off doing the tutorial in the help file to understand what I needed for all the maps, and It seems really easily. Just the exporting part it doesn't allow me to do :(
I'm sure it can't be that hard to make a script that works for Max 9. I don't see why Microsoft didn't do it.

Saying "you better!" Wasn't the best of ideas... I'm sure he will do it anyway, but the least you could do is show some gratitude, rather than giving an order.

You must not get out much. I'm just playing around, no need to be hostile.

That would be great if you make an exporter for 3DS Max 9, because my Max 7 and 8 don't work on Vista. They both give me the error...

Yah, same issue with me. Slightly different error though.

My apologies, sarcasm is hard to make distinct from literal meaning on the internet.

Lol, I'm more harsh on the internet. I don't really care, no need to apologize :P.

You guys are running 3ds max 8 in compatibility mode and also with "desktop composition" disabled, right?

My max 8 will work for a while, then crash. I disable most everything when running it. Tbqh, it wasn't really made for vista. My max 9 trial worked so much better, but now I'm out :(.

So the exporter wont work with version 9 ...... kinda dumb ..... why not support the latest version that works with vista (since you can only play the game on vista anyways)?

The free trial of 9 works great .... I have been having lots of fun with it and it would be cool to see some of my designs ingame.

I hope they release an update or your script (not saying "you better" but I would be grateful as I'm sure lots of others would)

I know this is a bump, but have you made any progress on this?

Hm... So it has to be 3ds Max 8?

I used 3ds max 7, and the exporter works just fine. The only problem is NO program on my computer other than 3DS can see the folder the ASS file is in, so I can't use the Map Editor with it. If I download 3ds max 8 and use it instead, will it work then?

If you're referring to me, UAC's been turned off. Does it matter if I have a 64-bit version of Vista? I have the UAC checkbox unchecked, and it's still not there.

You need to reboot for the account control to be disabled.

The thing I love about H2V is this: You have the have Windows Vista to run it, but oh, btw, the map editor is only compatible with software that doesn't work on vista without a lot of "finagling". Good thing I still have my XP partition

Compatibility mode? Just right click the shortcut you have for 3ds Max, go to properties>compatibility tab, and then select "Windows XP Service Pack 2." And 'whoop,' you're done!

Alright.. so, if the .ass exporter only works with 3ds max 8... where can I download it? or at least a trial of it? (rather than 9 of course)

Big deal, I was assuming most people would be using 8 or 9 anyway. I wasn't really speaking for those who had anything below it, I was just sick of seeing topics that asked why it wasn't working and the reason being that 3ds max 9 is incompatible.

[edit] Don't fucking triple post either. It says in the rules that you can post a different response to different people even if they are right in a row... it seems like you could have edited the first one twice, so yeah, DON'T TRIPLE POST.
