Yes i know you can run dedicated servers for halo, but i dont know if this has been asked but is it possible to play halo 2 on windows server 2003 or 2008, like the whole game; campaign, live, etc? Well since windows server is vista based, i was wondering if it would work on it.

Windows server is not Vista based. It's a cross of 2000 and XP.

keep going... keep going...

Aw damn. is the battle over?

I would say that the Dedi server files are much different from the game files. And with that, the main game cannot run on Win2003 server. Don't know about win2008.

Actually... Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server "Longhorn" as it is called now, is in fact Vista based. I know this because:
1) Microsoft sites says it is
2) I have worked with the beta.

During initial startup of the newly installed server it flashes "Windows Vista". Also once it is all set up you may install and use the Windows Vista themes - Basic and Aero.

As for using the dedicated server as well as playing the game at the same time, I don't know.

The whole reason Halo 2 will only work with Vista is because of the DirectX9 libraries that come with Vista and vista only.

I have heard rumors that Halo 2 DOES work on Server 2008. Its worth a try...
