And it's really small, like a nicely designed box (rectangle) map with lots of doodads and background to add a bigger non-boxy feeling.

I can't see them ingame. (And yes i press the arrow on the blue tab > and go to custom it says no custom maps). It's so strange; and yes i put them in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo 2.

Cool, I can't wait to see what kind of stuff we can come up with.
I'm sad, though, cause ATI is stalling my RMA for my video card :(. I want to get back in this bad...

the maps go in *your user name*/documents/my games/halo 2/maps

you can put them in your maps folder in the h2 root, but it will just get copied over to your documents folder....
so youll have 2 copies, just wasting space..
its so very stupid to have them in the documents folder. :'(

They have to be in the documents folder. Vista disallows users from writing to "Program Files" by default, so everything has to go in the user's profile somewhere.

Yet somehow I can save, create and change tag files in the H2V folders.

Nice maps, pritty simple to show us what the tags can do, nice.
Thanks for the info about putting them in the 'My Games' folder. Now i just wish my editing kit would work *sigh*.

Don't you make me go back and italicize 'by default.'

Here's the weird thing though. When I check the folder properties for halo 2 and the map editor they all say "read" only, even though I'm writing files to the folders or changing them or whatever. I can even put map files in the map folder of Halo 2, though Halo 2 doesn't read them as being there.
It's very strange.

You all know that Nitrousoxide made them, and he's a part of Hired Gun/Bungie.
He is just showing off his privliges to have all the tags for Halo 2 Vista.
If you ask me, it's going to make people believe this is what custom maps will be like. Which gives us a bad name with no tags.
You install the maps to:
User Name\Documents\My Games\Halo 2\Maps
You can find the folder for your user name under the start menu.

I hate some of the new security "features" like this.
I turned off UAC and all of the other firewall blocking crap. It's just too much of a hassle.

Windows is about to launch an Application. Allow or Deny? Windows is about to copy a file. Allow or Deny? Windows is about to change a setting. Allow or Deny? lol, I feel bad for those who are not 'computer smart' enough to find how to trun off UAC.

I had to disable UAC to be able to access my assets in the H2EK folder(Program Files).. :\ I had no choice ^_^ Unless they meant for us to use the tag/data folder in my Documents folder :| Was there anything about that in the Help File?

You're correct in that you're not meant to edit anything in Program Files. If you do, this means any asset sharing between modders becomes problematic, since you no longer have the same base files -- you stomped over these four shaders and his assets expect that you didn't, etc. I strongly encourage making new shader, bitmap, etc folders for your map and using them for any relevant assets.
The right thing to do, and what we did throughout development of our maps, was to maintain a separate directory tree (by default it's in "my documents") and put any and all custom files in there. We never modified or stomped over any of the existing assets.

I am sorry it took so long to get the new maps on-line, but Halo 2 Vista was not available in my area until June 1st and I will not post untested maps.
Now if there was only a way to take no-Hud/No-FP screenshots of the maps... I wish they had added a spectator mode to the game.

Hey at least you guys had some existing assets :)
