Primary Target (www.primarytarget.com (http://www.primarytarget.com/)) finally has halo 2 servers.
Here is wa i was told by PT themselves:
Until there is RCON ability, we will support the game on dedicated servers only.
$99.95 for a server that will support 2x 16 player servers
We have several games that are like this but right now the game is too limited to support in a shared environment.
The specs of the server we will run the halo 2 dedicated servers are:
AMD 2500+ or better
1 GB RAM
1 40 GB HD
Windows 2003 OS

We ({XF}) have our dedicated server up that also runs our H1 servers, TS, CE, and FEAR when we turn in on. and I can tell you that you will need more than one gig to run H2V well, H2V is a memory eater around 100meg per instance it doesn't take a lot of CPU but it loves them mem.

But does a dedi take up that much?

Why in hell would you want a remote dedicated server unless you could remotely control it? Not only that, but why would you pay fifty bucks a month for a server that sits 16 people.

Dunno... $50 a month for 16 people is crazy...
KlanHosting said to have servers soon at about $2.00 a slot for 16 players thats $32.00 a month which is average. But they have to wait til microsoft fixes everything.

For Clans it's not bad since you've got members to help pay, but I wouldn't pat for just one instance just get a whole dedicated box

What a shame.. 100$ just is not worth it, for me it isn't.. Sorry

Not worth it. The dedicated server is too dissapointing to pay for.

For one person no, for a clan why not? It will cost you more to pay for individual instances (if you run enough stuff) than just one dedi box plus you have more control and if you spread the cost among your members then it comes out cheaper.

I guess there's nothing we can do to change MS's mind right?
Would be great if they changed it to the kind of dedicated server software we had for CE.

except for the fact that the dedicated server software for H1 and H1CE was a major resource hog.....1 halo server that has 16 players is 2-3(estimation) halo 2 servers with 16 people......

Sorta Halo1 ded was a CPU pig taking around 7-9 % when empty while H2v takes half that maybe when full, but H2v loves the memory using close to 100meg all the time (but I'm guessing thats due to the map files).
