What is hamachi? I've heard people are playing Halo 2 Vista with it. I'm not going to pay for GFWL because I personally think it's bullshit that you don't get to play online when you already paid 50 bucks. So.... What is this "Hamachi?"

It makes VPN (Virtual private Network) between two wan networks and tricks your computer into thinking computers at the remote location its a LAN network.
Basically it’s a world wide system link. Its like xbox connect where you dont need xbl to enjoy mp games with your friends.

You can play online with the free silver account, you just can't make your own games, filter the servers or use quickmatch.

Steps to using Hamachi (By The Hooded Smack)

1. Download the program (Just google it. It's free).
2. Make sure the person you want to play with has Hamachi as well.
3. Go through the New Network wizard to create a... well, network.
4. The people you want to play against will have to join that network. There's a little tab for that.
5. At the top of Hamachi's GUI is an IP link that serves as the Virtual lan... or something like that. All I know is that the other person puts that into their "Direct IP" thing.
6. Now you get to play Halo LANs!

*Note: These are just the steps to get it working in Halo or Halo Custom Edition. I've never tried it with any other games.

It didn't work on Halo 2 Vista for me, maybe I was doing it wrong without really paying attention though.

Wow, what about other virtual network programs, I know there are others out there. Hamachi rocks because it's nearly lag free, atleast the few times I played it didn't matter if there was a 56k player or not.

i used to use this when playing online with people not through XBL. it worked quite well, however, you run on the host's connection. therefore it is usually slow and the host can always cheat. xbl is the only good one atm.
