I have had a problem with instanced geometry disappearing. I tried to use portals to fix the problem. But it dose not work. Has anyone had this problem and been able to get around it.

Try selecting and moving all the vertexes to the object's pivot point, then placing the model back to the original spot by moving the object, not the vertexes. Also, make sure the instances aren't too large or span across portals. If all else fails, just weld it to the main BSP.

I tried this and it didn't work. I wish I new the logic behind moving the pivot. I do have a lot of instanced geometry. And only geometry I made in the end has this problem. Earlier made instanced geometry dose not disappear, every thing I made at one point has this problem. With or without portals it is the same.

If your using 3ds max go to Hierarchy next to the modify pannel, now select affect pivot only and click on move tool. now a new looking move gizmo will comeup where the pivot point is.
just move it to where the object is.
now you will have to do this to all the instanced objects.

I figured that out. the part I don't get is why this would fix the problem? because it didn't. I don't get how a pivot problem causes this. and why it would only happen on the last half of the instanced geometry that I made?

It must be the pivot point not being inside the world or the pivot being in a nother portal area. I hope i dont get this crap when i export my level over.

I checked that. Its like when I got to instanced geometry 50(just example) everthinge I created after that has the problem.

The only thing i can think of is the engine can only take up to 50? instanced objects. if so you will have to copy not instance the rest.

I seriously doubt anyone should use more than 20 objects as instanced geometry unless it is glass or they are doing something really, really cool with their map >_>.

Turf has over 100 :/

EDIT: 62, actually. D:

Like I said, unless the map maker is doing something really cool D:

Asylum has 100+

Try selecting ALL of your objects, going to the hierarchy tab, click "Affect Pivot Only" and hit "Center to Object".

I doubt this will effect it, but it's worth a shot.
