I play Trombone in my school's marching band (We were in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in '06, btw), play my Casio keyboard when I'm bored (old piece of crap that lacks pressure sensitivity), and am skilled in the art of the harmonica.
And I can whistle pretty damn well, too.

So you can electrically alter the sound on a Guitar, big deal. I can do the same thing on my viola/violin with either a pickup set or a pure electric violin/viola/hybrid.
