Yep. But RvB has intimate ties with Microsoft, so they can ask permission without even asking it seems. (Well they do, but it's just invisible to us)

Isn't it funny that they make these rules right after RvB is over and has finally seemed to die down?

So far, this new move by Microsoft has been responsible for the cancellation of the third movie in The Codex Series. That's great. Send me a message if you hear about more groups that end the same way.

Those guys have a lot of talent in the comedy business. If they put their nose to the grindstone and did a series I have no doubt they would become successful.

Hehe... Sony.
But seriously, these rules are pretty ridiculous. They basically say, "be creative and your ass is as good as gangraped." Kind of ironic with M$'s latest junk about personalization.
Luckily, stuff like Red vs. Blue should be safe thanks to ex-post facto. Even if that wasn't true, I'm pretty sure they have a license to do what they do. Otherwise, Rooster Teeth altogether would be fucked.
This inspires me to make a bunch of rule-breaking movies in H2V out of spite. Anybody interested?

I'm interested.
And, no I didn't make the video, but I've been thinking about making something even before those guys posted their stuff. Sad that M$ is doing what they are doing.

Someone should stab Bill Gates, so Microshaft gets passed on to someone less selfish.

Can't peopel claim they "don't know the rules existed"?
I mean, it's not like it's linked in halo and theres no way to automatically make people read them.
there was nothing in h2 terms of use IIRC <_<

Sadly, no that won't work.
If someone wants to make a machinima that exceeds those guidelines, then I guess they didn't do enough research. That's Mircrosoft's reasoning behind anything. If you don't know the product, they warn you, then they kill you.

then claim at the time you bought the product with the intent to make machinima, there were no such restrictions and that you had no reason to assume other wise.
ask if they call up the local council every day to ask if your still aloud to walk down a street.

Good to think that way, but still not possible.
All of Microsoft's Term's and Conditions have reserved the right to be changed, and added on to, at any given time. So legally this is possible, and we can't do a thing about it.

How about Montages and game footage and such? Do these ONLY apply to machinima type videos? If not. Fuck that.

by the way, I believe that in the legal world, ignorance of the law is no excuse for breaking it.
But hating M$ is a great excuse!

Gates isn't the CEO anymore, as of 2000. Neither is he the chief software architect, as of 2006 He also has a freaking charity :/
The selfishness is probably coming from Ballmer and all the other corporate jackasses at the company.

He just owns a large portion of their Microsoft's stock, and happens to be friends with all of the other big heads that have a good share, too.
Basically, he still makes a big impact on decisions.

Decisions on content usage are far from the big, business-related issues that Gates deals with as chariman and majority stockholder (8%)

Oh, I know that, but the he still has input on decisions.
It's mainly just the legal department at work in this case.
