Well, it looks like my laptop is currently out of service as of now.
Whenever I go traveling and bring my laptop, I always set a "drive lock" password so that in case it gets stolen, no one can access the stuff on it. I forgot to disable it after coming back from vacation.
Now the problem. My uncle and his two brats came over, and the older one (6 years old) tried to use my computers when I went out to my friend's house to play Wii. I have a fingerprint scanner to turn on my desktop computer so he was unable to play with my desktop.
But then he took my laptop and, not knowing what a password was, simply banged random keys when he got to the "Enter Drive Lock Password" screen. I think either 3 or 5 failed login attempts will immediately lock down the whole hard drive and prevent further login. When I got home my uncle has a sad face and apologized and showed me the laptop.
So now I can't use my laptop any more. My uncle, fortunately, has offered to buy me a new one (he doesn't know tech so he thinks it's completely ruined). I'm tempted to slap his kid but he's only 6 years old and didn't know what he was doing. And I don't want to waste my uncle's money.
So, anyway that I can save my laptop's hard drive? It's actually used to back up all my desktop data so I haven't lost anything important. But I have many needs for a laptop, so I want to know if I can rescue it without either reformatting or buying a new one.
