I was surprised that no one reported on Apple's keynote today! Anyway, Steve Jobs and Apple unveiled new and updated products for the holiday season. A great roundup can be found at Engadget (http://www.engadget.com/2007/09/05/apples-the-beat-goes-on-event-news-roundup/).
For the lazy, here are the significant iPod lineup changes:
iPod Shuffle (1GB)
New Colors
(PRODUCT) RED branding
iPod Nano (4 or 8GB)
New design
Video capabilities
Coverflow and UI upgrades
Playtime: 24 hours audio; 5 hours video
iPod Classic (80 or 160GB)
All metal design
Massive storage increase
Coverflow and UI upgrades
Playtime (80GB): 30 hours audio; 5 hours video
Playtime (16GB): 40 hours audio; 7 hours video
iPod Touch (8 or 16GB)
iPhone design with multi-touch interface
Built in Wi-Fi; auto discovery of Starbucks stores
Built in Safari and YouTube; iTunes Wi-Fi store
Playtime: 22 hours audio; 5 hours video
I for one am going to buy the iPod Touch. I have never bought an iPod and it looks like the perfect one for me with the wireless capabilities. I'm also sure that there will be a huge hacking movement to free it and open up 3rd party programs. Does anyone think that they will be getting anything?

I'd love to get one of the new "Touch"es, but the flash memory size is way too small. :/

Yeah, the iPod Touch is how I would go. Although the iPod classic might be what I end up getting if the iPod Touch is overly expensive. Although I've never owned nor do I plan to own an iPod, so whatever. :)

In response to the memory size complaints, I completely agree. I am a huge music fan, so I have lots of data. I have over 9GB of Phish alone! Anywho, I'll be getting the 16GB version and it'll help me keep my songs up to date by switching them every so often. :-)

I'd rather go for a 160GB Classic and have a portable HD with a screen. :-)

Man, I need an mp3 player :smith: A shuffle would do.

Shuffles do what you want! My sister has one for running and she loves it because she says she can hardly feel it.

Yeah, it's so small and it really just needs to play music. Screens are kinda pointless.

Even the Creative Muvo 1GB for 30-40$ less is better. Great sound quality, no rechargeable battery to die, and a screen so you don't need to listen to the intro to find out what song you're listening to.

I'm getting a touch!
EDIT: Actually, after thinking, I might just get the classic. Like Atty said, a portable HD with a screen!

iPhone without the phone? I'm interested. Needs internal hard drive, Imo... Price fails btw.

I'm surprised, this thread lacks severe pointless Apple bashing...
I'll probably get a classic. I'll end up putting my entire DVD collection on it, and the entire RvB series. Fun stuff.

Low storage just for touch screen isn't worth the price/storage ratio in my opinion.

stubby iPod is stubby :awesome:
Most apple products are pricey to begin with so I wasn't expecting a good deal to begin with. However, this does mean that the last generation of iPod prices will drop significantly.
I'm still more than happy with my PSP. Cheaper, plays games/movies/music, has wifi, internets, larger, no touch screen, only a 8gb memory stick, but it proved to be more than enough.

Who would buy a mac to play games? The best cards they offer in their systems are the Quadros, but those cards are for professional use, such as rendering.

Let me get this straight, does that mean that the card has more brute strength, but less speed? I have no idea what the difference is between professional cards and gaming cards. Same with standard vs. server CPUs.
