The fact that you just got your computer still doesn't make it better - your Graphics Card for instance could be faulty.
And you left the sound Card unmentioned in your dxdiag....
*Sigh*
You didn't even try and read the sticky did you?
Anyway, try doing a Selective Startup, but you should also try to see if there's any other game that's doing the same...
Also, perhaps a BIOS update is in place.

What freezes? The whole computer or just the game?

If the computer is new these signs are sometimes normal (like with mine) but after a while they'll go away...my computer unfreezed after about 10-30secs. :)

Its not just H2V, it also did it on CS source... I just want the prob fixed what now?

I see, but is it Halo 2 and CS only?
You might have to exchange you graphics card for a new one.
But first try the Selective Startup as I suggested - Again, see sticky for instructions.

xigodmodeix
September 21st, 2007, 12:50 PM
i have done that all also, so ill have to get a new card?

Caboose O'Malley
September 21st, 2007, 12:53 PM
Well it seems that when you got your Graphics Card it was already broken, but since it's so new I'm sure you'll get a replacement in no time.

xigodmodeix
September 21st, 2007, 12:55 PM
is there any way i can actually see if its broken? so i know if i should call them.

Caboose O'Malley
September 21st, 2007, 12:58 PM
Try running all sorts of programs that use 3D rendering i.e. more games.... If they all show similar symptoms then you can be 99.8% sure that your GFX Card is fried out of the box, so to speak...

xigodmodeix
September 21st, 2007, 01:03 PM
wait... when i check out the specs of my comp it says the video memory is 256mb is that bad??

Patrickssj6
September 21st, 2007, 01:04 PM
Actually the odds of a graphic card to be broken are VERY slim...the whole lock up could be caused by something else.

Did you build that rig yourself?

And no 256 MB are just fine.

Vicky
September 21st, 2007, 01:08 PM
Not that slim, i had one that was fried/bitf*cked or whatever being brand new.

Caboose O'Malley

and vicky what did it do when u played games? anything like this?

The symptoms of a fried card are usually:
-constant lockups
-constant freezes
-constant crashing
-constant artifacting
-bad overall performance
-other graphical glitches

... And although it could still be something else, I'd still have to lean towards the broken card - unless if it's ONLY Halo 2 and CS that's showcasing this kind of behaviour in his computer.

xigodmodeix
September 21st, 2007, 01:19 PM
i think u might be right, earlier also i cam back to it and it froze with just a screen saver up...

Just get a replacement and you'll be back in the gaming business in no time ;)

so ya that wasnt the prob but its still occuring...

Caboose O'Malley
September 21st, 2007, 10:46 PM
??!!
Well did it change in any way? Do all games still crash and/or freeze?
Who built that computer? Maybe He/She made a sloppy job...

BTW, There's one important part of your computer that the DxDaig doesn't state - The PSU (=Power Supply Unit)
So, What is it? Is it giving enough power to your computer?

Mr Buckshot
September 21st, 2007, 11:23 PM
Caboose is right, the components of your computer might not be receiving sufficient power.

I think there may be a big problem with your video card. Do you have an integrated video card in your motherboard? If so, remove the Geforce 8600 or just disable it and run off the integrated to see if crashes still occur. If so, then your RAM or motherboard may be faulty.

Vicky

If you bought it at bestbuy, let them figure it out. That pc should easily run h2v.

Mr Buckshot
September 22nd, 2007, 07:45 PM
Very true, this guy's PC owns mine outright, and I can play at 1680x1050 on low or 1024x768 on high with smooth framerates.

By those two lines you can tell if it's a custom built or a OEM computer...
