Man don't you love the XBox 360, a few days ago I got Madden and I was going to get Halo 3 next week. Well there's a slight problem... My Xbox 360 is giving me the 3 red lights of death. :gonk:

And here's the kicker, this XBox 360 is a replacement unit of my other one and I had just gotten this one like 4 days ago! My older one stopped reading the CDs out of the blue and now this one is giving me the 3 red lights of death.

Gosh, couldn't happen at a worse time than this... I'm going to send it back again and go through another 2-3 weeks without an Xbox. Damn you Microsoft!

Do the Brazilian way of recovering it...WHACK IT.

Or wait for someone to post a solution, because I remember there WAS a solution on how to recover it...

It's not the towel fix right? As I heard that only worked for a little bit and then it'll pop up again.

Just pretend the xbrick360 doesn't exist until the new version that has this flaw fixed comes out.

xbrick360? Nice one. How witty and hilarious.

Sorry for your loss Rams, the absence of Halo 3 is never a good thing.

Just pretend the xbrick360 doesn't exist until the new version that has this flaw fixed comes out.

And the "new version" will only come out in 2008. The X360's CPU has been changed form 90nm to 65nm, but that won't solve the RRoD problem since most of the heat comes from the GPU, which remains at 90nm. 65nm GPUs are slated to release only next year. I believe the CPUs are already out, just not in large quantities. While the 65nm CPUs are cheaper to make and produce far less heat, the overall heat when you include the GPU ain't much different.

The new HDMI-equipped 360s have revised heatsinks, and if you sent in a 360 for repairs, MS has likely slapped in the revised heatsink too. That is currently the only "solution" to the RRoD problem.

lol yeah xbrick. Damned power supply, but if it were internalized, we'd have a console as thick as the PS3 and also insanely hot.

PS3 does get insanely hot, but its been proven to be able to handle the most extreme of temperatures (http://www.megagames.com/news/html/console/ps3cansurviveextremeconditions.shtml). The RSX was designed to have long lasting and stable reliability with rendering constraints, while the Xenos was designed to kick out more power and efficiency, but with both of the technologies designed around the same era at around the same costs, the trade off was less reliability for the extra performance boost. I guess it was more of last minute attempt to give the 360 at least one specification (the GPU) that would out due the ps3, but they underestimated the long term consequences.

I must be one of the luckiest cunts in the world, I've had my xbox 360 since a month after release, and I've never gotten the 3rlod yet!

Also, to anyone who wants to keep theirs alive, keep it out in the open(as in not inside an entertainment center) and if you still feel unsafe, let a fan blow on it.

Buy that cooling thing that slaps on the back where the power plugs in. it really helps out alot. And from what I can tell. The elite edition seems to stay cooler longer.

I haven't had any trouble with it........yet.

Well, while playing halo 3 for the first time, my Console's disc drive stopped working completely.

Think you've got it bad?

Its like getting a new car, driving it around, and watching it blow up in front of your eyes.

It barely does it's job well, not to mention melting and fusing itself to the box.

Also, yes I love the 360 too.

I have one, it's abusive to my power supply.
I've only had my xbox complain about the power twice since I've had my new 360 (sold my old one to my dad, it didn't break) which I got the day before the H3 Beta.

I also keep my power supply about 2 feet away plus its behind something that keeps anything it puts out from ever touching the 360. My 360 is also out in the open (and upright) and has never been placed on carpet (nor the power supply)

Xenon

Xenon was the name of the 360 during development, Xenos is the GPU's name.

even the old nintendos had troubles, where you had to blow out all the dust and shut from the cartridges.

only then they didn't give you a nice ring of death in your disc, or 3 red lights of doom. just a fuzzy screen.

one thing that I have done is put my power brick on a slant against the wall like this /

Not sure why but since then I have never EVER had a red ring again. I think that the power bricks are not getting enough ventting.

Oh great idea....except one thing....that thing will VOID YOUR WARRENTY!!!!!!!!!!!

Plus it creates too much power draw. AVOID THE INTERCOOLER AT ALL COSTS!

The only console that I have owned that never gave up on me has been my n64. It had survived 100s of falls off the shelf, being stepped on, getting somewhat wet, and being covered in dust. Still works like new. I would say the same about my gamecube as well, as it has gone through the same abuse since, but I sold it when I got a wii and I didn't own it as long. I don't value my consoles that much which is why I don't baby them, and its usually my younger brother who plays them.

Cartridge-based consoles tend to last much longer than those that use optical discs, since the cartridge readers are far more durable than those disc lasers, and there tend to be fewer moving parts. Flash memory has made it possible for a cartridge to hold as much data as a CD or DVD (those Nintendo DS cartridges can hold up to 512 MB), but it's too expensive to ship out games on 4 GB flash memory cartridges.

My friend has an SNES, which was passed on to him from his older brother (who had it since it first came out). It's in pristine condition and their most treasured console of all time.

Wow, you are...lucky. From many reviews, the intercooler thing does the exact opposite of what its meant to do: prevent overheating.
