They should really make something for psp, or port the DS one into psp and improve the models. DS is very low poly, almost everygame for it is crap, thats why i sol my DS for psp :-)

Yeah microsoft would never allow a game they own to be ran on a sony platform

And PSP is boring, thats why i sold my psp and bought a DS :-)

Too bad it never got shown the light.....

I have an R4DS, which is basically a Micro SD adapter for the DS that can read pictures, music, movies, and of course, ripped DS/GBA roms (don't worry, I own the real versions of all the games except Bleach). Chances are that the Halo DS rom may be ripped and placed online - it shouldn't be illegal to download that since it never made retail.

The graphics resemble those of Brothers in Arms DS...

And EP_Killa, the DS's touch screen is the best way to control a handheld FPS, and the PSP has only one analog stick, so...

I wonder how the framerate would have been though, but since Brothers in Arms managed to maintain 30 fps throughout, it shouldn't be a problem.

Yeah, they'd rather have it on a platform whose manufacturer makes a console that actually competes with the 360 in terms of sales...

I would agree with this ^^

Although aiming looks pretty ghey, looks fun. I'd love microsoft to make a handheld.

The graphics make me want to throw up... that doesn't look very Halo to me. And don't even try to bitch to me about how the DS hardware isn't as powerful as the Xbox, I know.

even microsoft has said they do not directly compete with the wii where as they DO compete with the ps3 directly - differet target audiences.

I wonder why exactly the plug was pulled. Perhaps the publisher didn't have rights to the Halo IP and Bungie/Microsoft issued a C&D?

I'm kinda glad that it didn't continue, in the state it was in in the alpha. While the prospect of handheld Halo makes me giddy, the way it looked like it was being played just made it seem like the developer wasn't really paying attention to how Halo (2)'s core gameplay engine mechanics really worked.

Well I'm gonna take a wild stab at: It wasn't finished. Maybe they could have made it look better if they were actually gonna release it.
I'm a huge Nintendo fan as it is. This would have sold me twice over.

Chances are, the Bungie Ninjas did order a cease & desist, it's happened before, and they were ordered to never mention head or tail of any aspect of the development, the publisher, ect.
However, there is a loophole, where they CAN show videos of what the game would have been, if there wasn't a C&D, which is where this video comes in.
Of course they would have better graphics and gameplay, this was a very early alpha, from the looks of it. I remember I saw this in ONE Nintendo Power magazine a while back. The release date was TBD, and status was Alpha Testing. Then it disappeared off of the list.

Very true, but Microsoft would sooner come out with their own handheld and expand their existing product line than use even an indirect competitor's product.

Had it been in development for the past two years (Based on when those videos were released, almost exactly two years ago), I'm sure it would have had much improved graphics, better gameplay, and more Halo-ness than is seen is these early alpha videos. Ahh... Would have been awesome. Maybe the possibility of Bungie splitting from Microsoft will give Halo DS new life?
Also on the topic of DS?PSP - I haz both, lulz.

If Bungie leaves Microsoft, it will be sweeped up by Nintendo, either Nintendo of America or Nintendo of Japan (Probably the former, since Japanese have been known for hating FPS games). Nintendo expressed interest of buying Bungie at E3 2007, after seeing the first real screenshots of Halo 3. Microsoft said no, not unless Bungie leaves willingly, and even then, not until H3 comes out.

So, if Bungie leaves, a Wii Halo game and a DS Halo game may just be in Bungie's future.

But according to the articles (from what I understood), microsoft will keep all the rights for the Halo series, so I don't think that they would be making any Halo games if it were swooped up by Nintendo....

Microsoft only owns the rights until bungie leaves the company as far as i know.

Microsoft will retain all rights to the Halo franchise, assuring that the Master Chief will never grace competitors’ systems, and will also hold “the right of first refusal on future games,” meaning that Halo 3 probably won’t be the last Xbox 360 exclusive title from Bungie Studios. Though you were no doubt being sarcastic, I'm reasonably sure the DS doesn't have as much graphics processing power as the Xbox just by looking at its library.

The DS is capable of graphics on par with the consoles of the N64/PSX era.

Yea, from what I heard the DS has an equal graphics capability as the N64. I just wish they would come out with Ocarina of Time to it's full extent on the DS.

Library means its collection of games, which means I was comparing the graphics of those games to the Xbox library. It's not that hard to figure out.

:haw:

Oh also, the DS actually looks quite a bit better than either the N64 or PSX. It's all at higher resolution.

or its on an EXTREMELY tiny screen.......

Mr Buckshot
October 6th, 2007, 02:11 AM
Yeah I have a DS too, and it's my favorite handheld gadget next to my cell phone.

I wish Goldeneye 007 and Perfect Dark would come to the DS. I guess that it won't happen for PD1 since MS owns Rare now, but Activision owns the 007 game license so Goldeneye could be ported over. I know that there was a similar dispute since Rare wanted to release GE007 and PD1 on the Wii virtual console.

The DS's graphics are slightly better than those on the N64, which also makes the DS have long battery life. I think Halo DS looks quite decent, around the standards of BiA or Goldeneye.

Now that MS and Bungie are splitting though...hmm...

And guys, unless it's the PSP, portable video game consoles are never meant to be compared to full-size home consoles...such a comparison is as stupid as comparing two games of entirely different genres (i.e. comparing Forza to Halo).

the DS graphics ability is just higher than that of an N64.

But its processing power is pretty sad.

66MHZ and another processor that runs at 33MHZ

Y helo thar unsolicited pitch. (http://kotaku.com/gaming/rumor-smash/halo-ds-was-an-unsolicited-pitch-307822.php)

I called BS on this a long time ago.
Why it was fake:

Your scores never went up
The time never changed
You shot right handed guns with left trigger.
There was no waiting time to host a multiplayer session
Innacurate ammo counts for the plasma rifle. Anyone who plays Halo can tell it doesn't exceed 100 shots.
The signal meter was non existant. It was there, but never showed any signs of being used.
Slots for other joined players were empty when they were obviously "playing" against a human opponent. (this along with the no load times are the biggest flaws in the video)
At the end the camera moved upwards when they were moving the stylus left and right (read: not up at all)
I like how it cuts off right before the nice warthog physics could have kicked in.

I called BS on this a long time ago.
Why it was fake:
We know it wasn't real in terms of it being a Bungie/MGS-sanctioned deal. But it is real in the sense that it exists; you can't deny that a shitty alpha build of this game existed.

The time never changed
I see no timer.

You shot right handed guns with left trigger. You shoot right-handed weapons in CE and H2 with the left mouse button, unless, of course, you're left-handed.

Innacurate ammo counts for the plasma rifle. Anyone who plays Halo can tell it doesn't exceed 100 shots.Wrong. Halo's meters show battery percentage, this was showing actual shots. The plasma rifle is capable of more than 100 shots.

Could very well have been cosmetic things that the developer couldn't give two shits about until the core engine was complete. Most developers try to get mechanics down before cosmetics. As for no load times, the demo only had one map: Zanzibar. It might have been loaded when the game was.

At the end the camera moved upwards when they were moving the stylus left and right (read: not up at all)If you paid attention at all, he died when the camera looked up. Apparently the developer made it so you die in first person.
