So Far Doom 3 and F.E.A.R. have been the only good horror games. I wonder if threes the charm.

But this one looks so great; I'll scan the GI article later.

I recommend you don't, that's copyrighted stuff and you will receive an infraction for it, plus it will be removed. Just a heads-up.
And yes, Dead Space looks VERY promising, though I wonder if I can muster up the courage to play it. I can't take much visual shock or mindfucks, which leaves me reluctant to play the Resident Evil or Silent Hill series.

I wasn't aware that pages in magazines were copyrighted <_<
Also, same, but it really doesn't look like a thriller.
And if I quote text from the magazine, is that copyright infringement?

Just about every publication has copyrights.
Right from the Game Over page of GI, in the footer:
Game Informer® does not claim any copyright in the screenshots herein. Copyright in all screenshots contained within this publication are owned by their respective companies. Entire contents copyright 2007. Game Informer Magazine®. All rights reserved; reproduction in whole or in part without permission is prohibited.
They don't want you scanning copies of their magazine and giving it out for free, basically. GI is a magazine with a monthly subscription.
And if I quote text from the magazine, is that copyright infringement? And no, quoting something isn't copyright infringement, just as long as you aren't quoting the whole article.
Also, same, but it really doesn't look like a thriller.
Are you kidding? You're alone, out in the middle of literally nowhere, armed with just a welding tool. Expect aliens to jump out at you and sodomize you in more ways than physically possible. Also, by visual shock, I'm talking straight holy-fucking-shit-I-crapped-my-pants images. Something that would make someone scream when they see it. Like The Ring.

From reading the preview, it looks like Electronic Arts really wants to fuck around with your head.

That will redefine the horror genre. Got nothing but a welder to burn some alien scum.

Because if something gets hype, it MUST be good. Wait...
I really hope Dead Space delivers, though, as it does look very promising.

The part where the psycho tried to claw into the pod nearly scared me off, the same lunatic taunting me from the shadows in a creepy voice did :embarrassed:

looks dumb as fuck.
just another game yelling "LOOK, A HORROR GAME, BLOOD AND GORE!!!111!"
the main character looks rediculous too.
i'm not saying all main chars should be big gun-toting mucle-guys, but he looks freaking stupid.
i think this will be in the 10 bux-bin a month after release, unless they really deliver something amazing, instead of "another horror/blood/shoot stuff" shooter

The combat system features a unique dismemberment system. You use your plasma cutter to chop off a part of an alien's body to kill them. And no, it's not a simple matter of aiming for the neck; key vital points change from alien type to alien type, and sometimes hitting the wrong part will result in your death.

sounds more like a gimmick to me tbh.
instead of shooting a weak point, chop it off.

Jahrain, you are being mean again. :saddowns:
Will you accept my forgiveness?
The thing I'm looking forward to in Dead Space is ONE-ON-ONE ZERO-G NEWTONIAN FISTFIGHTS. God, yes.

Yeah, jahrain, we actually look forward to this game.
If it's good enough to get on the FRONT COVER of a magazine, and you don't like it, than I'd say you just have bad taste. <_<

If it has EA written all over it, I don't know how they do it, but it manages to get incredible amounts of pre-release hype from every direction. Then some how no matter how much the game is stale after release, everyone has already forgotten about it because of latest hype about the next EA title.

Hello? EA.
They're previews for advertising games are made like the game's a movie. I mean have you seen some of Crysis previews? That or they take a feature a game has and emphasis it to hell. Bad Company anyone?

Uh...your greatness....um...well..oh god I'm afraid to talk back before I get pummeled by his hammerhand :(
Anyways, cowardice time is over. EA has some of the best games out there. The Battlefield Series has been extremely successful even after the bad things people say about them. They have great NFS games although they started going downhill after Underground 1 with the exception of Most Wanted. Medal of Honor: Allied Assault was a big hit too. NASCAR 08 is looking pretty solid too. They publish many great games that people still play to this day even if they're old, like NFS Hot Pursuit 2. Don't forget Army of Two is coming soon.

Actually, they publish many, many, many games. Its only out of pure probability that some of them, such as some of the few you mentioned, turns out to be games that don't end up in the $5.99 bargain bin at Gamestop a month or 2 after release.

Heh, you guys are lagging behind. I got that issue of GI last month.
But yes, Dead Space does look interesting. I'll probably try it out at a friend's house before buying, since it is a genre I am not too familiar with.

Ace you are never on Xfire anymore, and that saddens me.
Also, if anyone got the GI and noticed what they called the mining ship...
JESUS. Planet crackers as CASUAL MINING SHIPS. This universe owns Star Wars's face tech-wise.

It is when you consider that three basic SDs can turn a planet's surface to boiling shit within a matter of hours. That is some powerful shit.
