I need help with this thing. Im dual booting XP and Vista, everything works fine, bla bla bla, but then I installed a wireless adapter on my computer, like 2 months ago. Installed it on Vista. I hadn't gone into XP since then. Today I decide to give XP a little visit. Well, it automatically installs this wireless adapter. All is well, but I don't connect to any networks, cause this wireless zero config is messed up or something. All of a sudden it freezes, forcing me to hard reboot. I go back into XP, and now it freezes on the boot screen. I reboot again, and now it says to boot in safe mode or normal or last known good config. Well, i go to last known config, and it boots into XP. 5 minutes after I install the drivers, bang, freeze. Hard reboot. Freezes in the boot loading screen. Reboot. Start it up in safe mode. Computer doesn't freeze. I shut down the good way, and I boot into Vista. Everything works like a charm. Im typing this from Vista. Well, I shut down, and remove the adapter. What do ya know, Xp boots up and works fine. I shut down, and put in the adapter, and XP freezes 5 minutes after I install the drivers.

Im so confused. Ive figured out that its a problem between the wireless adapter and Windows XP, but I don't know exactly whats the problem.

System Specs Are:

Mobo: Asus A8v-VM
1.5 gigs ram
x800gto 256 mb
Athlon X2 3800+ 2.0 ghz
200 gog hd
the wireless adapter is Encore ENLWI-SG Super G PCI Adapter.

It works perfectly in VIsta why won't it work in XP?
I really want to use XP again, so if anyone can help, Ill really appreciate it.

Thanks.

Also my sister's cmputer, which is also running windows xp, has the exact same wireless adapter, but it works perfectly.

Vista doesn't want you to go back. It owns your computer now, not you.

Just try downloading a different version of the drivers and manually install it.

I tried doing that. :( I downloaded the drivers from the site instead off of the cd, annd the same thing happens. Maybe I should try installing the windows 2000 drivers instead of the XP drivers?

Software does not own hardware.

Software does not own hardware.

There's two types of software. The good one makes hardware happy and the bad one makes hardware go emo.

Software does not own hardware.

Thats precisely what I thought until I installed vista on my laptop.

Software does not own hardware.

Well, technically, Microsoft own your computer because they own Vista, which owns your hardware, which is your computer. Therefore, software owns hardware.

Does anyone have a solution or should I just bang my head against a wall until it gets magically fixed?

YESS IT WORKS!!! Well, I checked the driver I had on Vista, and it said Atheros, even though I had an Encore device. So I downloaded the Atheros driver, and went into XP. Well, it froze, so I started with last known good config, which was before I installed the Encore drivers. I installed the Atheros drivers, and it works!! :) Im so happy! Thanks for your help guys!
