That's the jump I'd like to make, but I eventually saw the PCI-E 2.0 interface under the 8800. Would that pose as a problem to me?
Oh, and if it makes any difference, the 8800GT's core clock will be 700 MHz and the mem clock will be 2000 MHz. (GPUReview's archive says 1000?)

2) PCI-E 2.0 "capable"... you really don't need to use it... and frankly I don't think there would be much difference in using it anyway.
3) Do *NOT* overclock the 8800GT that high! Its designed to be comfortable where it is. I've seen 720/2000 (well, 1000 double-pump) but they're not stable like that.

Unless you're so rich you spew gold coins out your ass, there's absolutely no reason to do this until DX9 games stop being made.

(Like my 7900 GT which artifacts even the BIOS) -- I'd stick with it. It's plenty good enough... at least until GeForce 9 truly launches.

The Geforce 7950 GX2 is already quite capable - it cannot render in DX10, but it'll still let you get high DX9 settings in Crysis with good framerates. Unless you're really itching to see the DX10 effects, and DX10 games are rare for now, you should stick with the 7950 until DX9 truly becomes last-gen.

Yeah, I probably should have mentioned that it's e-VGA's superclocked card. Woops.
See, the problem is that people think the 7950GX2 has all this power, but it just doesn't anymore. If this were early 2007, I'd absolutely agree. I tried running Crysis with mid/low settings and it ran like complete shit. In fact, the only games from 2007 that can really get anything decent looking above 30FPS are either Halo 2 or Unreal Engine 3. Other than that, my card doesn't get too far.
If NVidia would just tell us something, ANYTHING, about GeForce 9, I'd consider waiting for it. But no, they're being dickwad CIA wannabes and giving us absolutely nothing.

It would be just as hot as the others. They went with as little cooling as possible like on the 7900GT, so you might as well get some quality aftermarket cooling for it.

odd because my x1950pro is getting 30fps on very high (with the config mods), and the 7950GX2 is more powerful...

The 7950GX2 scales absolutely horribly. Nvidia never really got it's drivers together for that card, and honestly, I don't know if it's supported anymore in driver releases. (except maybe Vista) I would definitely take a 8800GT over the 7950GX2 or even a Radeon HD 3870. You also must consider the lower temperature and lower noise. (at least for the 3870, might want aftermarket for the GT).
You don't have to worry about PCIe 2, it's backwards compatible with PCIe, you just won't get the extra benefits like more bandwidth and more power draw through the motherboard.

Power draw? So wait, it would take less power than the 105W it supposedly takes? That may be good news for my shitty 375W PSU... (Honestly, I don't even know how it manages my 7950GX2.)
EDIT- Woo! Post 200! Here's to the next bizarre milestone.

PCIe 2.0 just offers more power through the slot for whatever needs it. It wouldn't make your card draw less power.
Also, get a new power supply before that one dies :gonk:

blowing a power supply can lead to very bad consequences with your machine...

Yeah, I was gunna ask for some help about the PSU later on actually... I have no idea what PSU I can swap mine with, because Dell doesn't want me to know shit about it other than its wattage. Literally, all I know about it is that it's 375W and it's from Dell. -_-'
