I know this is kind of dumb question, but i have two problems my first one being that when i create a halo server i go and check on another pc playing halo and my server doesnt come up. my obvious question is why, and what can i do to fix it. My second question is that i used to get tons of servers when i click "Get List", but nowadays i only get like 4-5 servers max, and half of them i can get into for connection reasons. i have Cable Internet, and everything else works fine, and used to get tons of servers, and i dont know what went wrong. please help me!.:confused2::(

1. Do you have the latest version of Halo PC(V1.07)?
2. Try out a LAN server if your computers are on teh same network.
3. Is your copy pirated? I've heard about this happening on pirated versions of the game.

There are some ports that you need to open in order for your server to show up.
My Halo CE Server Does Not show in Gamespy (http://hce.halomaps.org/index.cfm?nid=238)
[/UXB] (Note: Even though you're playing on PC, it can still be applied similarly).
For the part about a few servers only showing up, make sure you don't have any filters up (not the filter options at the bottom) the filters like "Sort by name" "Sort by ping" "Classic gametypes only" etc.

i dont know how to "open the GameSpy Port 5632 in our router/firewall."
Also Lan only works if i do a hardwire connection, but not wireless. i dont know how to check what version i have, and no my copy isnt a rip off.

Do you have router or firewall?
If you said yes, visit this site: http://portforward.com/

You shouldn't even be using the wireless connection for online gaming. Its transfer rate is adequate for simpler games like HL1 engine games, but for more advanced games like Halo, it's barely enough. I've used the 54mbps connection in my laptop before and omg the online latency was so bad.
Also, open up your filters.

i am not using a wireless connection. i am hardwired into my cable modem. my sibling is using his laptop to play via wireless, and he has no choice because there is no room for his laptop where our modem is. and my aren't my filters open??? i showed you guys that i have halo in the exceptions for my windows firewall. what more do i need to do?

Go into Halo and network settings...add +1 to both ports shown.
e.g 2302->2303 and 2303->2304

I play all the time on my wireless network, never had any problems with lag. my connection is always good. It really depends what router/switch you use to transmit your wireless signal.

Yes +1 on both.

Dude, the connection type has barely anything to do with the online latency as long it is above the internet speed. :eyesroll:
Your HDD reads about 3GB/s...that doesn't mean that if you run a game like Crysis on a 2GB/s HDD that it is anything slower because there is no moment in Crysis where 2GB at once have to be read.
Your average internet speed is 1MB down...even with a Wireless-B connection (11Mb/s) that would be enough.

I use a 54 mbps wireless connection every day and I never get more than 200 ping on US based servers, average is 110 :eyesroll:

Heh, I forgot to add that I was using the wireless in China and Singapore on vacation...maybe that explains the high ping.
About filters, gandalf, I mean that you have to make sure you didn't set it up such that only servers with a certain # of players show, etc.

i figured out the problem about the servers not showing up. my computer was blocking the updates from Microsoft. so i unblocked it and updated my game, and now i get the servers, but the servers i create still wont show up on the game spy lobby.
