View Full Version : Crazy weapon idea... Combo Plasma Pistol

So I've been playing Unreal Touranment quite a bit lately and I got a really crazy idea from it.

There's a weapon in the series dubbed the UMSD Shock Rifle, and it has two firing modes. One being an instant-connect, slow rate of fire rifle shot, another being a slow-moving ball of energy that does more damage. Now, with this weapon, if you hit the secondary fire's projectile with the primary fire's, it creates a huge explosion that does a really huge ammount of damage.

Now I was wondering if it's possible to mod a plasma pistol to have a beam rifle/covanent carbine-esque primary fire, leave the charge roughly the same (With no tracking or distance fade), and create a fuel rod-style explosion with it (with more damage of course.) Basically, it's two projectiles coliding and creating an explosion.

Now I've thought about it and it seems like it wouldn't sync online, but then I remembered the way CMT did their shotgun. The projectiles came out server-side. If that could be done for this weapon it'd probably sync really well.

Can projectiles collide in Halo 1? I've seen evidence that they do in halo 3, but I'm not so sure about in Halo 1. Also I don't think projectiles can have health, so they can't be destroyed. But if you can find a way it let me know- I might borrow your method to set up grenades to explode when you shoot them.

Yes, they can. Kirby (from halomaps) has demonstrated so.

TRUST ME. HE'S GOOD.

Considering I've been playing the game on and off since it came out and I can barely hit a core going across the screen, yeah, he's good.

Awesome :D I'm taking up a little modding again so I'll try to figure out how to do this. ;) It may not look so great because I'm no custom modler or anything though :(

That's a good question, but I do believe it would be possible.

In the projectile properties in Geurilla, there's an option for "Projectiles come out client-side only." I believe if this were turned off the projectiles would come out server-side, much like in UT, and it would make it possible, and easier to learn how to lead with. However I've had nobody to test this out with :( But I'm pretty sure it'll work; I'm 99.9% sure the CMT shotgun had server-side projectiles enabled through this option.

Managed to do that. Gave it health and a modified Invisibility collision model and an explosion effect when the collision model's health is destroyted. What I haven't managed to do is get it to explode when it's shot... or even dissapear. :p

I'll keep that in mind, once I get it into a playable-enough state I'll send you a copy, son.

edit: I FREAKING DID IT. I made a combo with primary and alternate fires, now I need to tweak some graphics around so it doesn't look completely butt-ugly :D Thanks to everyone who helped me here and there, it means alot ;) If anybody wants, I'll pass out a few levels with this and other weapons including a flak cannon, needle bolt rifle, and a tank-shottie for the lulz.

Pffft, ain't gonna happen anytime soon, I don't think. I don't know the first thing about that kind of stuff. :(

I may take the time to learn more about it next weekend... probably post an update then.

So far it looks pretty good to me, although halo will never be as good as unreal.. you never know how close you can get to the real thing ;)
