im thinking about doing it but i am unsure if i should jailbreak 1.1.1 and just stay there or if i should go the extra step and upgrade to 1.1.2 (then jailbreak that). The reason i am concerned is that i dont know of all the apps (mainly Customize) will work on a jailbroken 1.1.2 . Any feedback will be great. Thanks!!!!!!!!!

Happy Holidays!!! :)

I googled around and a LOT of websites are saying that if ya wanna jail break 1.1.2 you should DOWNGRADE to 1.1.1 to start the jailbreak. Then they go on to say that you jailbreak 1.1.1, then upgrade and your apps should work.

Check these sites out:

Edit: on third link:

As far as customization is concerned, we already have installer.app and almost all the apps are reported to be working just fine with 1.1.2 (Customize has an option for 1.1.2 inbuilt). There you go, comment in case of jubiliant victories/failures :)

I'd Jailbreak the 1.1.1 and then use OKtoPrep. It makes it so the Jailbreak to 1.1.2 is easier and more efficient. Here's what my 1.1.2 looks like:

I love my iPod touch. Best $26 I've ever spent.

Gah, must jailbreak iPod Touch. Now!

I just need to find a 1.1.1 downgrade... anyone have a quick link on them? I've tried searching before with little success.

Touchdev (www.touchdev.net) is a great resource. For Jailbreaking 1.1.2 (also 1.1.1), it has a great guide (http://www.touchdev.net/wiki/Jailbreak_1.1.2).

thanks everyone and while we are on the IPT subject, do customize and summerboard work together or does it have to be one or the other?

I have mine running together. I just make sure that they aren't conflicting, like having Summerboard not theme the dock.

that makes sense, so like only make summerboard do the background and app icons

Well, it's impossible to fully brick iPods, so the worst thing you'll have to do if it doesn't work is restore in iTunes and reinstall your files.

I'd say to go for it! :)

Uhh.... what tutorials are you talking about? I got the applications from a source (I forgot if it was official or unofficial) in the Installer.

Also, 1.1.3 is coming! The best features, in my mind, are that you can have a bookmark on the home screen and you can natively rearrange icons with pagination!

Here's a video of the rearranging. I'm loving the wiggle! (http://cre.ations.net/blog/post/iphone-113-home-screen-rearrangement-video)

There's not much to getting NES to work. Just use a SFTP program, and the IP of the wireless network, port 22, username root, alpine password and put it in the directory. Same thing for GBA except you need to download some bios.

Any, my iPod touch is now :epic:ly :awesome: (request: we need an :epic: emoticon to get overused) I just need to get iPhone apps to work and then I'll create my own theme for lulz.

Sorry for the bump but I have a few questions about jail-breaking my ipod.

will jail-breaking my ipod end the warranty?
can I undo it if I run in some sort of trouble? checked
will jail-breaking it remove my music from my ipod? checked
I see a lot of people that say their ipod freezes while trying to upgrade to 1.1.2 are there any big differences between the 1.1.1 and the 1.1.2 to risk ruining my ipod? Thanks in advance.

"Will jailbreaking my iPod touch end the warranty?

Technically, yes. You are using unauthorized applications on the iPod touch, which breaks the warranty. Although you can "unjailbreak" by restoring your iPod in iTunes. This means all applications you installed, all changes made to the underlying operating systems: everything will be gone. Neither man, nor software, nor god can then tell it apart from a just-out-of-the-box iPod (http://www.ipodtouchfans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7370).

"Can I undo it if I run into trouble?"

Absolutely.

"Will jailbreaking it remove my music from my iPod?"

It depends. If you already have 1.1.2 firmware, then a restore is needed to get back down to a jailbreakable firmware. Doing this, you lose all music, videos, and other things added by you. If you have a 1.1.1 firmware, you're good to go!

"I see a lot of people that say their iPod freezes while trying to upgrade to 1.1.2. Are there any big differences between the 1.1.1 and the 1.1.2 to risk ruining my iPod?"

I have never seen anyone with the problems you describe. Most likely they didn't have a fucking clue what they were doing, so I would just restore it then. As for the big differences, I can't remember what the major differences are, but I don't know why you would want to stay with an older firmware if the newer one is exploitable too.

My opinion would be to restore your iPod touch to 1.1.1 and jailbreak it using Jailbreakme (http://jailbreakme.com). I would then go to "Installer" and install the "OktoPrep." Update to 1.1.2 and download the 1.1.2 jailbreak package (http://conceitedsoftware.com/iphone/1.1.2-jailbreak.zip). Then you are home free to add whatever applications you want and such.

Basically, just follow this guide and you can't go wrong. (http://www.touchdev.net/wiki/Jailbreak_1.1.2)
