So I'm looking into getting a 360 controller for windows. I plan on getting a wireless one, but I need to know a few things first. From what I understand I need to buy the controller and the wireless adapter separate. That's fine, but I want to know if I can instead, buy the Elite controller (It's black, I like it) and will it still work with the wireless adapter that you get, or do I need to buy the original 360 controller for windows? Also, do I need to buy some battery charger, or does the 360 controller run off of AA's? And if I can get the Elite controller, does it also run off AA's? I think that's it, thanks in advance for your help.

360 controller can run off AA's.
You can use any 360 wireless device with the 360 to PC wireless adapter pad thing.
If you have Vista the drivers are built in, if you have XP you'll need to get them from Windowsgaming.

I think I'll add a question to this.
Is it possible to plug your controller through Play and Charge kit?

No... The "Play and Charge kit" will only charge the controller.
You still need the 360 to PC wireless adapter to use the 360 controller on your PC.

Wrong. The Play and Charge kit is exactly the same as plugging the 360 controller in via usb. I just tried it.
If you have a wireless controller for your 360 already, all you need is the usb wireless adapter. It also comes with software, so it should be fairly simple to set up. Binding the 360 controller to your pc may take a little bit of work if you have a 360 nearby, however, as it requires you to press the guide button to turn the controller on (followed by the sync button), which will turn your 360 on.
You might want to look into XBCD drivers as well, google it. They allow you to use your triggers as buttons instead of the Z axis (pull left to decrease, right to increase).

!!!
GAH!! So THAT'S why pressing those controlled the Z axis! The first time I got my wireless adapter, I wondered why the heck the triggers made MC look around in Halo 1 when I tried shooting.
EDIT: Damn it. Redcl0ud is down, finding a mirror is hella hard.
EDIT 2: Wait a minute. One website says that XBCD doesn't work with wireless 360 controllers, only the wired ones. Does Xpadder make the triggers digital?? :/
EDIT 3: Xpadder is teh 1337. Nevermind.

Funny, I never had that problem. I was able to use the triggers as firing controls from the get-go.
