X360 controller problems

Hello, I recently bought a wired Xbox 360 controller for use on my computer, I installed the Microsoft Xbox 360 Accessories 1.1 drivers and I get a quarter circle of green light on the guide button (shows a pop-up when pressed, so I assume its working fine)

However, none of my programs will recognize it, it wont even show up under Game Controllers in the Control Panel.

Any idea how to make it show up?

Are you using vista or xp? My controller works fine in vista (It installs the drivers on first connect)

It should work with both Vista and XP in same way. Also, are drivers 1.1 the newest ones? If not, the problem might might be there.
