Basically, I want to host a game on Halo but I can't for some reason. I have a router, the model is NetGear WGR614v5, I have followed all the instructions at portforward.com (http://www.h2vista.net/forums/portforward.com) to forward my ports for Halo, but for some reason I still can't host. Anyone have any tips?

Are you trying to host a normal game or a dedicated server? What kind of firewall software do you have?
Need more info if your router isn't the problem.

I am trying to host a normal regular game. I'm not sure what kind of firewall software I have, if you can tell me a way I can check what it is, I will find out.

Umm, check your taskbar... other than that, make sure that you unblock HALO or whatever from your Windows Firewall, google how to do that.

Download and install Wireshark (google how to use it)
start a capture of your network card
Start up halo and try to host
minimize halo and stop the capture
look to see which traffic could be the halo traffic
or just connect your pc directly to your DSL or cable modem
see if it works then
if not (do this only for a brief while) turn off your windows firewall
now does it work?
if no:
Go to Start, Run
and type "msconfig" sans quotes
go to "tools" tab
scroll down to Disable UAC and launch it (should have that off anyway for easier living w/ vista)
go to startup tab
you can uncheck anything with Symantec or McAffee
go to Services tab
you can uncheck anything from Symantec or McAffee
do not uncheck "synaptics" if you are on a laptop..that's your mouse
restart the pc
does it work now?
if you did any of the above its just to find whats wrong... you should get your AV and firewall going again right after you figure out the problem.
If you mess something up just go into Safe Mode and change the settings back to what they were.
