i am currently using xp on my computer, and i really want to start making some halo 2 maps again. I have a unused vista home premium disk in my desk, since i heard some good things about vista and bad things about it (ie ram usage) im asking you guys what i should do, Keep XP (SP 2) or Vista? I put a poll up

I personally have had very few problems with vista - only one recently was because Creative hasn't released new drivers for my sound card in over a year. You've got 2.5GB of ram, that should be plenty, I can run vista easily on 2.

i have 53 gb left on my internal hd and 160 left on my external, is it possible to install on external?
Also, my dad doesnt want me to install it because he says it will ruin the machine, but im guessing thats completely false

If you don't have a very compelling reason to allow Vista to eat your PC, don't.

i mean, had vista on my laptop, and it ran fine, and it's specs were way worse then this one

Looking at your specs, you should be fine. When you have a powerful enough system, Vista can actually be more stable than XP, like in my case. If you really wanted to, you could always dualboot.

Your system is more then adequate for Vista, install it now.

i always like to use virtual machines.. i didn't look at your specs so i don't know if that will work... but a good idea may be to make your PC a vista machine and install the virtual machine in it. Install XP to the virtual machine... now you have both just in case... i have lots of probs running 3dsmax on my vista (could be b/c its a 64 bit) but i run it just fine in the XP virtual machine.
if you can't find the vmware i can get it for you.

the DRM is a big turn off for vista.
unless you seriously want to make maps for this game (:/) i would personally keep with the machine that has proven itself in the past to perform not only adequately, but very well.
your basically changing for something thats slightly prettier (depending on skins ect you use in XP) and sacrificing performance.
not worth it.

Vista is better than XP tbh.
If your computer can handle it, its a choice worth making.

right click on the desktop, click view, and click classic icons, it looks ALOT better.
also, if you hate the shortcut arrow as much as i do, http://www.hivclan.net/stuff/RemoveArrow.zip
use that to get rid of it.

That's just a tedious method that isn't guaranteed to work. Dual Booting on two seperate partitions or hardrives is the best method.

lol it should take a max of 30 minutes to install on your PC.

I find Vista really annoying since you're basically never able to delete setups from your computer, very rarely does it work even with the command prompt permission hacks. UAC is really annoying too but I have to keep it on since other people use my computer sometimes too.

So have you had any problems, EP_Killa? I'm thinking of installing it myself (64 bit Home Premium) and I don't know if it's the right choice.

If you have the disk go for it. If possible try to dual boot though.

Install 64-bit or nothing. I even removed XP afterwards.

I would have gone with a Dual Boot, but I guess that it was your choice to stick to one OS.

Yeah you really should have gone with a dual boot. Vista's good but you will want XP back trust me. My vista can't use hek+ idk if other people have this problem but I do.

I sure do want XP now. I see no purpose to Vista now that I have had it for a while, besides searching within folder trees.

you can just right click on the shortcut and disable visual themes for that program only..... no need to turn aero off completely.
