Well, max is up to its tricks again, When I'm in poly edit and I'm in edge mode, and i try to pull and edge out of my plain with shift+click, instead of pulling a new face out it just de-selects the edge and does nothing. I have no clue why its doing this, it works fine when i'm in vert or poly mode, but not edge. I tried reseting max but i still get this problem, i talked to a friend about it and he doesn't know what its doing so i thought it would be best to come here. I'd like to get this fixed so i can start modeling again. Any help would be appreciated.

it's not a free edge then.

you cand drag out an edge that's connected on all sides.
simply put, you can only drag "open edges"

it's supposed to do that to keep you from shitting up geometry.

tl;dr

it's not broken, you're doing it wrong.

Thanks Tweek, i fixed it now, i guess that explains the plane having a visable face on both sides, i found that to be odd...
