thanks, loads of bugs to fix, gotta finish skinning it and definitely a model edit before completion ( the hologram...)

btw, this isnt just a random project to build a terminal this will be used to articulate a Marathon Man achievement award that unlocks an advantage area in a map im currently working on :thumbs up:

i prefer to be a 100% custom work admirer, i have nuthing against Zteam's work... just something that has been made from scratch with all of the inbetweens from modelling to ingame (UVwrapping and texturing) i find more impressive.

Its a different shade of blue to fit in with the multiplayer maps scheme.
The origional could be possibly used in SP... who knows.

its pretty much finished, may tweak the texture to make it more accurate before final release of the map i am intending this to go in.

edit: oh i see for a more holographic look...sure i guess i was really tryin to immitate Halo 3's hologram but the colours have sort of dampened through the process of compilation i may have to tweak them before final release.

decent model too, although I see heavy use of extrusion and chamfering for detail- i think that's permissible in this application.

Watched vid. "Breathing" like animation looks great, but couldn't you have it pop and leave the destroyed version? Not completely destroy itself?

possibly yeh, this is basic stage of development so i guess we'll come to some sort of compramise for this issue.

Uh, since when? You must not be doing your loops right. Also, looks like your smoothing is really bad in some spots, might want to fix your tesselation/ngons.

Not a bad model, but I've never really had much interest in mechs, as they're mostly a collection of primitives.

Not part of the mod, the Valkyrie's IP was taken by BT in the Harmony gold BT lawsuit and the Destroid monster was taken by harmony gold. But BT does have an alternative to the Destroid monster which is this http://ppc.warhawkenterprises.com/mechbay/stone.jpg

Almost finished. The knees look better in the Max view than in the render. I think the hands might be too big...

Also, does anyone have a solution for a Windows error? All of my folders are set to read-only, but the files aren't. Is this a major problem, or something that can be fixed easily?

That's the polygon counts, not the tri counts. Once again, there's confusion in there. The polycount is almost 7K for Gordon.

I believe that if there are more then 10,000 polygons (might be triangles, idk) on screen at once, then the game will crash. Not sure if that limit applies to Gmod since I know some people have gotten 30,000 polygon models into it before among other things (eg armies of zombies, etc).

Dunno about that; I've seen lines and lines of vertex overflow errors scroll down my console in GMod while looking across certain maps, but I've also seen a lot of shit onscreen at once in other Source games and I'd imagine it'd be a lot more than 10K.

The thing is, that's where the diaphragm is located. On normal people like scientists and other non uber muscular people, the disphragm actually sticks out a tiny bit further then the actual lung section of the chest, so as constricted as that is, it looks unnatural and seems like it would hurt to breathe.

Not finished yet :P

The idea is that the entire mechanism is spring loaded and opens when the hammer is pulled two clicks back, ejecting the cylinder, which is replaced with a new one. The top is then manually pushed back into place, causing the hammer to move one click forward, locking it in place and preparing it for the next shot.

Also, original design didn't hinge, but instead was fed by a magazine where the main hinge is located. Supposedly it would have used rimless ammo and shells would be inexplicably ejected when each chamber passes the bottom of the gun, where the front of the cylinder was originally exposed. There's absolutely no point to it being that way, but there's no point to a lot of the design elements of my weaponry :awesome:

Love the revolver exam. As long as we're toying with revolver ideas, i've got this concept for a shotgun that utilizes a revolver design, except instead of individual shells in each slot there is a magazine holding 3-4 shells. in other words it would be really strangely shaped and really awkward to fire, but it would be able to fire possibly 30 times before you would ever need to reload it. When i sketch it up i'll post pics.

There's already one, go type in future weapons military shotgun. Basically it looks like a Tommy gun had an orgy with a shotgun, making it pretty much what you said. Oddly enough though, when you said that, the picture of a gun blade went into my head..and I haven't played final fantasy in 3 years.

if thats the case you had may aswell give the low down about all of the impracticalities of all of the halo weapons...

i dont remember him saying he was sending off this design to the pentagon to get processed and made a regularly used firearm in the army.

i think the gun is georgeous tbh... something fresh to the constant stream of military genre'd weaponry that gets posted here.

65 frames. May be a bit disproportionate speed wise.. Rendering anims always seems to make them a bit speedier. I may have to slow it down in max to make up for that.

-The motion of pulling the bolt is "cancelled" by the gun's body moving - the first time I watched it I didn't realized he even pulled it. I don't know what exactly you should do, but find a way to make it more visible.

-Hand clips mag when he puts it on. Finger position in general there could use some work. It doesn't look like he's really holding it.

1. When he releases the magazine, the gun "flicks" to the right, while the magazine ejects to the left. This just looks odd to me.
2. The bolt cycle isn't prominent enough, as teh lag stated. I would make him sweep his hand down the gun completely as opposed to a "back and forth" motion to make it more obvious that he's pulling it.
3. The right thumb is... bent in a really awkward way in the origin, and throughout the animation. (once again, I forgive you because you're using the H1 rig)

@ cad: I can see that your copying the H1 AR reload, but when he pulls the magazine i notice that he hesitates once the mag is fully freed from the gun, and then pulls it straight down. to me, this looks really unnatural. Also, when he inserts the magazine and pushes it a second time, there isn't really enough emphasis to show force. What I would do is rotate the wrist a little bit so it looks less like hes pushing it with his thumb and more like hes slapping it in with his palm. That might not follow suit exactly with h1's animations but I think it would look a bit better. I also don't like how huge the hand looks when hes pushing the bolt back but I know theres really nothing that you could do about that.

After 3 months of hard time working on this, its finally done!

We got a lot of inspiration from other video games and our love goes out to the people who helped this dream come true.

It all started back 4 months ago when we wanted to create something special and new, so my friend donut said: "lets do this!" And I was like "yeah!" And so we did do it, and here we are now.

The process was a complicated one, and as soon as open sauce comes well happily share with you the secret of how this amazing piece of work was made.

Well It took us 3 weeks of me slaving over a computer screen concepting, as we scratched numerous designs, some of which made rocket scientists look like teletubbies.

After the concept was done, we knew we had nailed it right on the head. Donut quickly got to work on it and modeled it, which right now is about 95678 tris, without optimization. Next icee beautifully animated it for standing, walking, crawling, reload 1, 2 , 3 ,4 ,5 ,6 ,7 8, 9, 10 ,11, 12 ,13, 14 and 15.

Then went through 18 melees, designed 4 origins for 3p, fp, 2p, and matrix bullet time p. He also designed 5 different idle positions and then unwrapped it.

This took him 1 month.


Then it was my turn, working onto the point that my fingers bled, I carefully skinned and worked on this model. We poured our souls into it!

Decent, but the glow around the text seems out of place, and your name on the lower right is barely visible. Make it stand out.

Maybe I should have written some notes with it but I just wanted you guys to find the flaws for me so I could address them. This is for a forum banner and my name is not meant to stand out. It's mark of just the artist's signature or trademark.


I don't see the relevance of the halo font with that image. Damn font's overused.

Hahaha, of course not. It's just there because it was the best looking font in the list I already had. The font was there from a previous Halo-related project last year.

I see it now. Although, it is really hard to notice but I think the stock pointing to the left while ejecting the magazine (or whatever caseless ammo uses) looks more authentic.

Unwrapping comes first though, and it doesnt help that the modeler *COUGH DONUT COUGH* decided to tweek some things after I finished unwrapping it, which totally threw off the uvw coordinates. Admittadely the model has much more :awesome: now though.

So as it's been said before, this thread gets more attention than any of the other ones, and I would really like to improve my gun... please help me out guys...


Yeah, so I thought this was a good excuse to work on something for Entropy... and so I've been messing around with this model, and here it is so far. I'm looking for ideas to add detail and what not. Uh... The little indents above the clip are lights, not vents. I know it's not the cleanest model and there are quite a few wasted polys, but as far as I know it doesn't have to have to be too organized, as long as it looks good, lol. So now...

The only thing I don't understand about skinning is getting everything to be consistent between UV slices.
