I'm getting some laptop memory because I only have 1GB now (in the form of two 512 sticks... bleh), 2GB extra to be exact, and I need to know something before I make my decision. There's a big rebate on some OCZ memory, but it's PC6400 or 800MHz, and my laptop says it only supports up to PC5300 or 667MHz. The thing is, the 800MHz memory with the rebate is cheaper than the same 667MHz memory, so I just need to know whether my computer will still accept the memory, just run it at 667MHz.

TLDR: Will the laptop supporting only 667MHz memory, take 800MHz memory and run it at the lower speed?

Yes, it will accept DDR2 6400 memory. Make sure that your laptop can handle the voltage required by the OCZ sticks - check the memory modules in there and make sure that they are the same voltage.

Oh, well, I already bought it. But it'll probably work. At least, I hope it does.

Otherwise manually adjust it...you probably are going to have to do it anyway.

Worst case scenario, just remove the old ones and set voltage if they don't support it.

With the current specs of your laptop, are you sure you want to bother with an upgrade even though it won't help much with games? (since the Intel card won't even run many games) The way I see it, the only benefit you get right now is faster Vista startup times, and faster app-loading times in general, but not much.

Still, rebates are always good. How much are you paying?

$50. And BTW, my craptop can actually run HL2 and Episode 1 with usually no lag, Gmod with none at all unless I play online, and um... not Episode 2. It crashes after the loading screen is there for a few minutes, every time.

$50 seems like a good deal...good job! Just note that your game performance won't improve that much except in games that are less dependent on the GPU (i.e. Source).

Then that's good news, seeing as that's pretty much all I play right now. Hopefully Ep2 will start up.

Sorry for the double post but here's what happened: the memory arrived today, and I think Vista does run better. I think my games run better too, and I was even able to start up Episode 2 and TF2 without Ep2 crashing and TF2 crashing as soon as I shot something. However, Ep2 crashed right after I spawned in the very beginning, right after that big video that recaps on what happened in Ep1, and TF2 ran pretty good (a solid 15FPS, I think?) and crashed as soon as someone on the other team shot a nade at me. Rawr. Well, at least all my other games work great. I was playing Zombie Survival on Gmod and it was pretty fun.
