View Full Version : TF2 freezes, sound loops

I just tried TF2 today, after not having played it for a couple of months. Every 15 seconds or so, it freezes up and the sound loops around and around for about 3 seconds. It happens on every server I join, usually when a projectile hits another player. WTF?

So would you say it's stuttering then? That happened to me on Episode 1 until I got a better gpu, but you should wait for someone knowledgeable for advice.

Graphics Card: eVGA GeForce 8800GT KO

I really don't think that's the problem.

Maybe something related to the multithreading updates.

The same thing happened to me about 10 hours ago while playing, but a lot less often and it didn't persist upon later playing of the game. I'm just choosing to blame it on the free TF2 weekend.

I bitched about this like a month ago. :(
But when it happens to me, I sometimes loose my connection to steam (and get kicked from the game).

Try restarting Steam, and then your computer if that doesn't work. I've gotten this a couple of times, and it hurts to watch.

Not really stuttering, just freezing for a few seconds and looping sounds.

My graphics and RAM aren't the problem here, TF2 isn't really graphically intensive and I can play Crysis at 15FPS on medium-high settings.

Interesting point about the multithreading updates, this didn't happen to me when I last played a couple months ago. Are there some settings I could change?

Yes, but I don't know them and would have to look them up :F

When I loaded TF2, it would be laggy as hell even on the main screen, (sound lagging behind and mouse movements, etc)

What I did: I just made it run on one core =/

But you have a single core and that, I don't know how you can fix.

Have you tried updating your video card's drivers? Creative is a pan in the ass with its website, but it fixed my problem with audio popping.

Tried updating them once, but it caused halo to be black when I started it up, so I downgraded. I haven't ever had a problem playing TF2 on these drivers.
