games not working

ok so, i got my HD 3870 which came with the black box, and me already having the orange box gave my blackbox to my cousin, but when he installs TF2 and HL2 Episode 2 or any of the games that came with it he gets this error right away

ive tried numerous things with him to get it working, ive tried firewalls, re downloading,updating video drivers, updating directx,and making sure some fuctions are enabled in windows that the valve help guide suggested but still nothing, and any demos he downloads off steam work fine, like the halflife 2 demo works - and valve has no phone support. Any Ideas?

i think you actually need halflife2 to paly those. much like the MODS built for hl2, you cant play em unless you've got the game.

i was thinking that too but why would they give you games that dont work without buying another game, and why wouldent they tell you first

Contact Valve. They're your best shot at getting it fixed.

If I remember correctly both Black and Orange box come with HL1, so that shouldn't be the issue. Try posting your issue on a HL2 forum of some kind and see if they can help =/.

Also, you don't require any previous Half-Life 2 games to play them.
