A guy called Masaru Tochibayashi makes these, they're incredible (and feature commentaries by Stephen Hawking, apparently):
Their pilots were much more chivalrous, much like everyone else's. Reports of enemy aircraft pulling alongside badly-damaged planes and escorting them to safety are surprisingly common for all of the major combatants.
I'm seriously pissed they still deny the shit out of the things Japan as a whole did, but I'm not about to go paying out on their aviators when I know of at least one case where a Japanese pilot abstained from finishing a damaged American plane off, instead seeing him down safely.
Sad thing about history is that everyone on the bad guys' side gets tarred with the same brush almost unquestioningly...
