With temperatures in the 90s/100s and me being drenched in sweat, do you guys have any tips for cooling down besides blasting the AC?

keep household lights off and keep the blinds closed as well. Works particularly well for me, even though all the windows in my home face the sun side.

The best tips for hot weather is to keep windows open at night to let cool air in, then during the day keep blinds and windows closed to keep the cold air in. Just wait till it gets cold in the evening. Then repeat.

I used to live in Silicon Valley. Temperatures did reach 120 farenheit back in summer of 2003 >.<
Keep blinds closed. If you have a big tree with a wide crown, put a chair under it and sit there with a laptop.

BEAUTIFUL IMAGE, GEE THANKS.
My house is surrounded by trees, mulberry trees. So my house is normally very cool. But when it does become a scorcher I normally do what the others said.
The other side to that is, the mulberry's are a perfect ingredient in my fruit salad. Mashed Mulberry's along with sliced strawberry's and banana's. Mix that together with cool whip and you have a delicious treat for a hot day.

Ha wimp, I only touched the AC when it got to 27 Celsius. I'm still wearing my T-shirt and shorts. Only my mom needs to use the AC at 25. Canada is just so much cooler (temperature-wise) than California.

uhh guys, it's 10:47 right now and its 80 degrees fahrenheit. In the last 5 days it reached 105 consistently every day, last year our hottest was 121 so i'm planning it to get hotter. I live in the middle of a desert. Mojave desert. Look up quartz hill, its close to the skunkworks plant and all those other aerospace defense industries.
Do you guys know the completely extreme discomfort of constant sweating, no matter where you go, no matter how many times you look for a cooler place, even at night, and the only way of cooling down is to take a slightly cold (but not chilled, you can get hypothermia from stepping into really cold showers because of the extreme heat loss, look it up if you dont believe me).
I can only have my computer on for short bursts in the night--because we cant afford the power of running it AND cooling down the house from all the heat of electronics, so we have to turn it all off.
Living out here sucks. At least it gives me more time to do my art, play my guitar. But no digital work. This summer is going to be hell for my work.

I'm another California Guy. I live in the valley, (a few blocks away from Universal Studios Hollywood) and almost as if it was planned, the power for my entire block/general area failed under the additional stress of 5 recently added condos, with each person probably blasting their air conditions as high as they can go. Having just received a horrible cold from a friend at school, I'm sure you all can predict that I was fairly pissed off at this.
So I went to Fry's Electronics and bought Medal of Honor: Airborne for $20 :3.
I'm still sick though =<.
OT: The burbank Fry's Electronics has copies of UT3 Special Edition (with the editor tutorials) for $30. Imma head there next week and buy a copy.

Well, in my case my family lives in 2 bachelor apartments built in the 1920's - the biggest wall on the entire house faces the sun at the hottest part of the day and that heat takes until easily around midnight to dissipate unless the AC is on. Because of this my place becomes an oven when it breaks or the power goes out.

Suck it up and deal with it? Lets see you deal with it when you have to do heavy physical labor in the 100's, with heavy risk of fainting from heat exhaustion. Lets see you try and use your computers when they run the risk of literally MELTING, not to mention you're still sweating yourself. Summer in the middle of a desert means you hide in a hole and play videogames. And try not to die.

Uh huh. If it's only a little over 100, and you have a functional air conditioner, none of that's going to happen. Ergo, none of that happens here.

Does anyone live around the Silicon Valley area, aka my old home? I'm really curious to know if temperatures have hit the triple-digit Farenheit readings yet. I remember back in fifth grade when I finished my STAR test with a sigh of relief...only to groan when I stepped into the extreme 120-degree heat.
If any of you Americans are burning up, come north of the U.S.-Canada border. If you want even colder, go to northern provinces where the lowest temperature is about 20 degrees Celsius. There's a reason why Canada is so sparsely populated - we have more land mass than the U.S., but much of that land is all frozen up and unsuitable for development. Unfortunately, global warming is going to make the frozen, undisturbed areas shrink dramatically.

Though it isn't like we don't have hot places right here in British Columbia. I've been in Boston Bar in the Fraser Canyon (roughly 2.5 to 3 hours driving northeast from Vancouver) when it was 44 degrees celsius (that's roughly 110 degrees fahrenheit).
