Since I know how well you all take to vegetarianism I thought I'd post this here.

Basically... it's World Vegetarian Week.... that means it's a challenge to go a week without eating meat. The "week" started yesterday (19th) and goes through to the 25th.

Give it a shot.

Am I the only one that wants to deck this guy for being such a retard. He complains we kill animals which are living things for there meats. But hes not vegan, so he eats vegetables, which are also living things.
Anyways thats a whole different topic.

Could I give up meat? Nope, Part of a portion of my meals, generally sausages and burgers, steaks every once in a while.

Some one I know has become a temporary vegetarian due to the fact she cant afford meat (lol), she eats peanut butter all the time to get the protein. lol.

I don't think it would be such a good idea to change my diet so quickly like that, i would feel awful all week. besides, I've already had pepperoni pizza and tacos this week.

Hmm.

Yeah, failed miserably already. Had hotdogs monday, ate popcorn chicken for lunch today, and had pepperoni pizza for supper.

Also, I tend to find that I get healthier when I eat a whole diet instead of cutting a huge section out. :|

I'm not so sure about that, since I know that I'm not half of those people (yes, I eat my fruits and veggies, my meat, and all that other fun stuff). You would be surprised to know that a lot of people eat everything they're supposed to.

^ Health benefits and such. Don't really feel like getting into that argument again though so I'll leave it at that. Not really... meat is important in moderation. Sure you can substitute and avoid it... but that's not any more healthy than a proper meat-inclusive diet. o.O

Hmm.if it's just for a week, I'd say there'd be around... 0 cases.

Stop with the whole "LOL I LUV MEAT CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT IT LOL" crap guys.

I believe that since humans have evolved to be omnivores, there are serious health benefits to eating meat. That being said, it is perfectly possible to live a healthy life without eating meat. If people don't want to, that's their choice.

Leave it at that.

That's the thing though. Not many people really has a "proper" meat-inclusive diet.

Everyone just assumes that since they eat meat they're fine... even though they forgot that they haven't had any fruit or veggies in over a week.

It's the fact that right now they realize that they are taking something away from their pyramid, whereas a bunch of stuff that they've been needing from it has been missing for a good while without them even realizing it.

The thing is, is once you make a conscious effort to change your diet like this... other things follow. You tend to try to not shit on your body with stuff like fast food... or smoking. Plus, people generally eat way too much meat for what their diet calls for....

Eating too much meat can cause kidney stones. (http://www.webmd.com/news/20010720/prone-to-kidney-stones-watch-what-you-eat)

Vegetarians generally have a 1-2 year added life expectancy over their meat eating counterparts. (http://www.ivu.org/oxveg/Talks/veglongevity.html)

Also vegetarians have a much lower risk of heart disease and such. (http://www.americanheart.org/presenter.jhtml?identifier=4777)

Sure... if you don't have a balanced diet you're not going to be healthy. Simple as that. The real problem is that meat eaters consume way too much (low quality) meat and generally not enough fruit or veggies. It's a lot easier to go to McDonalds and buy a cheeseburger than to go to the store and get an apple for a snack.

oh lol i already ate ~1 kilo of meat since yesterday. should've told me earlier.
but don't get me wrong tough, i wouldn't have listened anyways. this whole vegan/vegetarian ideology really reminds me of that south park episode where ppl start driving hybrid cars.
im all for eating healthy stuff and having a balanced and healthy diet. but i think even if your vegetarian doesn't mean that you automatically eat healthy stuff. you don't get healthy just by shoving some carrots and bananas down your throat for weeks so the vegan/vegetarian approach is pretty much a one-sided solution.
also, since im slightly underwieght, do some excercising and have a relatively low income, im into junk food. plus Im sure that in the future, theyll have awesome robot crap to treat my various health problems.

Eating too much meat can cause kidney stones. (http://www.webmd.com/news/20010720/prone-to-kidney-stones-watch-what-you-eat)

Yep. Moderation is always a good idea. but rejecting meat in its entirety for an alledged higher risk of various diseases in case of excessive consumption? idk.

+rep for idealism nonetheless.
EDIT: at least later on

I could easily go without eating meet for a week, As i've done in the past, But i just dont agree with the vegetarian message.

I'ts not about will power, It's about a Preference of taste and texture.
Simple as that, just because a person choose's meat on a particular day on the calender doesn't make them ignorant or arrogant.

So Fuck off with the stereotypes or i'll label you an ignorant Tree hugging hippy fuck with a dish of arrogance and stupidy on the side.

Not what I meant at all brother. Chill out and take a breather.

I wasn't stereotyping anything or anyone. People were saying "I don't have the willpower" and in all honesty there isn't much to it at all. A few of my friends that have become vegetarians all agree with me that it's not hard at all to "make the jump" We all thought it would be hard beforehand... but it's not.

i'm no vegetarian, and i doubt i'll ever be one, i lack the desire to give it up.

if i ever got a vegetarian GF i'd propably go along with it, since i'm not really all "I NEED MAH MEETS", i just see it as part of a good diet, which you can indeed, go without.

that being said, do however eat like veggie burgers, just because they taste good :P
i give my thumbs up to vegetarians for standing for something.

Honestly, I bet at most Two people here have a "whole" diet.
To be honest, I didn't think I had to mention that the night before I had mushrooms stir fried with broccoli and other veggies. I also had pears with the popcorn chicken that I ate at lunch, and two apples and a nectarine that night for a snack. Oh, and I eat carrots all the time because I usually just have to crunch on something. <_<

All I'm saying is, I try to include everything, and I maintain health. I don't cut out a big section because I see it as unhealthy, not the other way around. Cutting out meat from your diet is counterproductive to (part of) your cause.

Llama Juice

Bravo sir :). My point was that most people don't get a balanced diet, even if they are eating meat. They see vegetarianism as taking away something VITAL even though they've been missing half their diet without realizing it.

That being said, it's pretty obvious that meat isn't needed at all in your diet. (http://www.gather.com/viewArticle.jsp?articleId=281474977249417) That is, if you understand what you need to replace the meat with.

Roostervier

I don't disagree, a lot of people don't have a proper diet. :\

I can understand what vegetarians do, but vegans are another story. I could go without eating meat, but without eating stuff that came from an animal is silly.

However, if you need to replace a part of your diet with something else so you can function healthily is evidence that vegetarianism is not natural for humans.

Maybe it's because you decided to just flat out call a group of people retarded because your diet is different than theirs.

And... for you to say that vegetarians think they're better than every creature... when you have a lot of them fighting against the mistreatment of animals whereas meat eaters generally are the opposite.... destroying other creatures for their own use.

I'd like to hear your logic behind your thoughts though. Please share.

What makes you think you're so much better than most animals that have ever lived. Nearly all animals eat some form of meat, why should humanity be different? Because some people have some hero complex hurr im savin da animalzzz?
No, its the natural way of life and besides  if people start eating more fruit and vegetables people can suffer.
In conclusion, stop eating bananas. You're contributing to the downfall of Latin American nations.

I ate meat this week, although I bet I could go a week without meat. I have a friend where her whole family was raised as vegetarians, and there all extreamly healthy and good looking, so I don't belive you "have" to have meat in your diet. Neither her or her sisters can eat meat now even if they want to, if they do they just get sick.

I don't know how you guys interpreted my words to make me sound like I think I'm better than anyone else, nor do I really care.

I wanted to just see if anyone would even consider trying something different for five days. I wanted to see if anyone would be mature about it. Knowing how you guys reacted to the last few vegetarian threads I must say I'm actually surprised that there were a few posts that weren't entirely "OMFG I NEED MEAT". So.... bravo for that, but for the majority of you... grow up.

Yes, now I'm being condescending. Why? Because the attitude towards a harmless choice like this was so amazingly terrible. Not because I'm a vegetarian, not because I think I'm OMG superior to you, but because of the immaturity displayed.

I didn't once lash out against your choice to carelessly destroy thousands of lives eat meat. (Is that better? Is that what you wanted me to say to pretend to be better than you?) All you've done is disrespect me and my choices. So fucking grow up and realize that your opinion isn't the only one that matters. You're entitled to your own opinion, yes, but don't display it like a bigoted fool.

I'm locking this thread because you've proven that because of your closed minds nothing good can come of this.
