Has anyone else heard about the tornado in southern california right now? It just knocked a train off the track a few miles from my house.

What the fuck do I do if it comes this way? California houses don't have basements.

Have you seen The Day After Tomorrow? If so, you will remember atl east a few people survived, so theres still hope. :)

lol Just playing, uh, if it gets real bad, hide under a door way I think it is, or arch if you have one, or in the bathtub.

CA houses tend to be fairly sturdy-earthquake protection. I'd try the bathtub+mattress thing though.

earthquake =/= tornado

are you joking? most cali houses are quickly/shoddily built tract complexes. We're fucked, but we're against a desert mountain so i think that prevents the whole tornado thing, because if the cold air rushing down was to meet hot air, it would be farther down the mountain.

My house was hit by a tornado, ripped the chimney off the roof. Happened while I slept, years ago.

In my eyes, most like hurricanes and tornadoes and such, dont kill that many people. The people do, usually are just people who did a retarded thing like chase after it, or stood outside and filmed it and got hit by a bus or some thing.

SO if you dont do any thing silly, you'll be fine :)

would that be hit by a bus going down the street or would that be falling out of the sky? :raise:

Both, not at same time...

Usually if you get hit dead on by a real tornado you're fucked. The number of deaths is typically small because tornadoes are not huge relative to hurricanes, they can only do so much damage.

You sure? I've seen alot of discovery channel programs where houses got directly hit, they all survive but outside is like a war zone.

I would rather miss the tornado than get hit by the 150+ mph wind speeds directly. In general tornadoes are just bad news for anyone around them. However, I have seen what you are talking about though on the discovery channel and your guess is as good as mine about why those buildings are still fine.

A tornado hit my town on 6/6/06

Everybody was kinda freaking out...

My dad made Tshirts "I survived 6-6-06" it said on them.... had a picture of the tornado on it too. It was silly.

Nope. Mountainfolk are actually worse off if a tornado cell pops up. Winds are stronger and focused along the direction of the valleys between mountains.

edit: Oh, I forgot about this. Concerned about cali homes not having a basement? Get a shovel.

I live on a hill in a small valley surrounded by mountains so I'm protected.

And THIS is why I'm glad I'm in Canada.

I heard about CA on the news, though. Hope no one's hurt.

So far no one has been killed, and the only injured person was a semi driver whose truck got toppled.

Yeah, I just read the link, it said the semi driver's condition is unknown. Hope he's ok.

If you live in Glendale, Hollywood, Pasadena, the Valley, or somewhere else not in Riverside county, you're fine.
