Sup, well I'm thinking of getting 360, now my tv is complete bollocks (or at least the one I can use most of the time) I'm pretty sure if I played it on my PC monitor it would look better. VGA cables I think would enable that, do you think they are worth it and does sound easily input into the stereo input jack?
By the way, if you in UK and for some reason want a 360 HD drive, gamestation is selling them for £20.

Yeah, the sound jack is pretty easy.
It's like a "Converter", you can either put it into a surround sound system or speaker jack.
The VGA Cables are definately worth it, I have one on my 20" monitor, and although it doesn't support its native res, it still looks great (Native res - 1680x1050, Xbox res - 1360x768).
Although, after 1360x768, it just makes the jump to 1080i.
A list of resolutions can be found in this review (http://hardware.teamxbox.com/reviews/xbox-360/40/Xbox-360-VGA-HD-AV-Cable/p1/)

That is a big waste of 20 symbols :<./Stupid
Seriously though, HD DVD is dead, Blu Ray won. Unless there is some sort of porn miracle that makes even the finest gentle man fall to their knees... :pervert:
GO GO GO.

Seriously though, HD DVD is dead, Blu Ray won. It's true that Blu-Ray won, but they still sell HD DVDs for cheap, and some movies that came out on HD DVD won't come out on Blu-Ray for a long time.

I think it'll be worth it. I actually bought an HDMI to DVI cable and hooked it up to my monitor, and the increased resolution is great. I actually run at 1920x1080 (1080p) since I'm using an HDMI cable, but although it doesn't fit my native resolution (1680x1050), it still displays all on screen, just fine. 1360x768 looks practically the same actually, but I stuck with 1080p anyway.

Hmm, I'm not sure how I'm going to get audio though, my monitor doesnt have those speaker like input things.

Plug it into your speakers?
Or are your speakers embedded into your monitor?

Oh, you mean plug VGA into monitor and then audio into TV? Are they the same as the regular AV red and white audio cables? If thats right then yeh it will work :)
Cheers for the idea rooster

Yes, that will work. It will also work if you use the optical output, even though the VGA cable is plugged in.

It's worth it. Played on a normal TV for a few weeks then decided to spend $50 and buy the VGA cable to plug into my 22" monitor - looks awesome even though it's not displaying at it's normal res (same boat as JunkFoodman). I just use some extension stereo cables to connect the 360 up to a stereo.

If you have the xbox 360 near your PC you can easily use the "1/4 jack converter" to route the wires into your "Microphone IN port". Once it's connected to your computer you go into your sound manager and enable the route through speaker option. I'll post how-to links later.

Get this (you should get this if you buy the official VGA HD cable by microsoft)
http://www.amazon.com/Cables-Go-Stereo-Female-Adapter/dp/B000J1H4VI/ref=pd_sim_e_img_1
Plug in audio out from xbox to turn it into 3.5mm Stereo Male
Then get a coupler (http://www.amazon.com/Cables-Go-03170-Stereo-Coupler/dp/B00007FGUF/ref=pd_bxgy_e_img_b)
and slot it onto the end if you wish to plug speakers, headphones and possibly amps into it.
That's what I did :)

Should I get a HDMI cable for my 1920x1200 monitor? There is DVI to my computer and unused HDMI port. I could change the mode between HDMI and DVI by just pressing a button on the screen. :D

Definately get it, playing on an SD tv kinda nullifies the point of an HD console. I've got my PC and Xbox sharing my monitor (VGA and DVI) so I can switch with a button press, with the sound going through my PC, same as T1xAnton (but going into the Line-In socket, as Mic-In isn't made for that level of input).

I think the thing NullZero posted might do the trick nicely. Right now I have some old speakers, they use the sterero mix out from my pc (the green one) and I use a like extention wire that hooks upto my speakers, so it just uses simple stereo mix in I'm sure.

The metal pointed end is exactly what the end of my green wire looks like, the one that hooks into my speaker.
I'm going to play it on my standard tv to start with, maybe put it on my old ass widescreen tv down stairs, I bet I will get this VGA thing soon.
Thanks for your help, was going to get xbox today but I woke up too late.

1/4 jack? The audio one that comes with xbox? Red/White?

Yup, VGA cable is great, with the exception of no 1680x1050.
I think he means phono to 3.5mm converter (edited: don't know why I called minijack phono). It converts the red and white lines to a single standard headphone connection, and you can put that into your mic port and have your sound card echo the mic.
Of course, you could always use the fiber optic cable option as well... (Yay Z-5500 systems!)

The Red/White connectors are Phono connectors. Red for the right speaker and white for the left speaker. 1/4 inch Minijack is the one you plug into your Stereo mix out. So your setup with your old speakers should work just fine as long as you get a Phono - Minijack converter, like the one you linked to :) (which, as NullZero said, you get with the Microsoft branded cable).

i have one question, do the vga cables actually attach to the PC itself? or to the back of the monitor?

Just to the back of the monitor.

I saw an Xbox HD-DVD drive at a Goodwill, a thrift store of sorts.
Not particular hard to get your hands on one. >_>

Yeah, I play my HD console on a 22" monitor that runs 1680X1050, and 1080p looks awesome. Just get a VGA for sure. I had troubles getting my audio put together, but I got an adapter for the red and white cables that allows them to connect with a set of computer speakers, and then I went into system settings and routed audio through that cable.
It's definitely the way to go for a gamer that doesn't want to spend money on an expensive sound system and expensive 1080 HD TV.
