Handle looks extremely uncomfortable. I'd suggest fixing that. The model will never be 100% like the original, so I think it'll be okay to smooth out something so... noticeable.

All you ever do is model out detail, nothing else. You need to learn more before you can start calling these weapons final.

Hunter
June 6th, 2008, 02:14 PM
So what is final?

Sever
June 6th, 2008, 02:16 PM
Final is properly skinned, tagged, and displayed in-game.

Hunter
June 6th, 2008, 02:19 PM
I never say its final like that. Plus I never said that was the final model.

Masterz1337

You said it's nearly finished, so I'm taking that as a "my model is done."

Too many polies. Will hog all the resources HCE can spit out.

Hunter
June 6th, 2008, 04:27 PM
That model won't be going in-game. It will be used for texture baking. Then I will take details out of model.

It doesn't look high-poly enough for something like texture baking to me. If you are actually going to do that, then make this version much higher poly.

Also, the handle is too fucking thick dude, fix that.

Masterz1337

Not really. CMT AR is 3k pollies, and the arms are 3k as well.

June 6th, 2008, 07:07 PM
Aren't triangles more important than polies anyways?

Roostervier
June 6th, 2008, 07:15 PM
Yeah, they are. There can be over twenty faces in one polygon, so poly count isn't as accurate.

Handle seems a BIT wide, but it looks like you put alot of work into the model. Other than the handle it looks pretty good imo

Thought I'd post a real SL for comparison purposes. As you see you need to put in that little front handle bar thing still, but it is a WIP, so you probably aren't there yet.

The front bit looks cut off on your model. If you look the front of the SL is smoothed out.

Green: Wtf is this shit
Pink: What are those extrusions on your model?
Blue: This thing's missing.
Red: So is this.
Purple: Handle's too thick and needs to be smoothed.

Other than that, quite nice.

Smooth it anyways. Make your model an improvement on the original.

-Those little extrusions you pointed out are actually little flaps that come out as you're chargin' yer lazor.
-The handle is still too thick, which means the whole weapon probably is too.
-The front still looks kind of nasty, although it might just be the rendering angle (give us some others.)

On the other hand, I like how you've taken the liberty of curving the new handlebar and adding a grip, but that further poses the question of why you can't take the liberty of thinning and smoothing the main handle area.

Overall I like the model, but please try to fix as many flaws and inconsistencies as possible.

So you want your model to be mediocere when you can make it amazing?

It's this mentality which is why I never respond your your requests to have your stuff in the CMT mod.

Colored Anal Dildo?

HEY. Go make up your own explicit acronyms.

And yeah, I have to agree with Masterz. If you can make it better, then do it. It's not a bad model, but it could be a really good model if you just put a little more effort and worked through the mundane tasks.

I have made the other handle near the trigger as thin as I can without it looking stupid.
I will try and improve it though.

But for now, here are some more angles of it.

How about you improvise and make the handle more ergonomic? No gun would have a square-edged handle like that.

What exactly needs changing?

As you can see yours is too smooth, while Bungie's flattens at the top.

Sorry for the horrible hand writing, but I drew this in paint, and you all know how that is.

Hunter
June 11th, 2008, 11:50 AM
I see what you mean. Also paint has a text tool. Lol.

But I'm keeping mine more "rounded" than bungies.

It depends on what everyone else thinks I should do.

Ifafudafi
June 11th, 2008, 01:12 PM
Alright, it's starting to look much better. If possible, take your own spin on the main handle like you did for the outer one to make it look more comfortable, but I'm running out of things to complain about.

Hunter
June 12th, 2008, 06:51 AM

I will probably use high poly version for texture baking and stuff then get a low poly version of it in-game.

everything looks perfect (well close to it) except for the rear of the gun. Take a look at what spartan posted, I know you already addressed his complaint about what he circled, but right behind there, just look at it and compare, if you don't think you see anything wrong, then don't change it, its good enough I think.

But if you want to be picky, I would say some of the sizing appears to be off slightly. The top in the back when compared to the real one seems like its slightly skinnier, although a texture might solve that problem, I still would say its a shade too skinny. Another thing is toward the rear, in the back, underneath it theres the extruded part under the gun (part of the whole handle part), then above that theres the main part of the gun with a little rectangular mesh extruding down over the handle part, it doesn't see like its the right length to me. I know the perspectives aren't spot on so there is obviously some differences, but those are just my opinions.

Also thats just being really picky, go look if u want to change it go ahead if not its what ever. Good work :)

EDIT: Actually looking at that big side view u just posted. Look in the bottom right corner and u'll see what I mean how that one little extruded detail doesn't quite look long enough, or might look better if it was longer. (actually don't have to physically make the gun bigger) just toy with it slide that front angled piece of it forward a bit maybe. Just a suggestion :O

Hunter

Thanks for the suggestions. But I will leave it as it is now, because I really can't be arsed Lol. And I am unwrapping it.

The handle looks like it could never rotate. Remember theres a reason that its a separate piece. In halo 3, the handle/grip starts out rotated upward, and rotates downward during the ready animation.
