I was relaxing on my computer on this site with my photoshop up when my monitor randomly flicked off. I pressed the power button on the monitor and nothing happened, so I pushed it back to on position and it made a clicking noise similar to the sound of a lighter. Obviously freaked out about the clicking, I turn of monitor and manually shutdown my comp, probably loss some memory...but I let it cool down, and tried to turn it on again..the same clicking.. It has not turned on since. Im gathering up some money to get another monitor, but just in-case theres somehow some way to save the old one, I decided to post here. Any ideas?

what type of monitor is it? if it's some old CRT, just toss it and get a new screen.

Its an HP v75. Nothing special, about 3 years old or so...maybe 4.

i'm guessing that the refresh rate isn't the right setting for the monitor.

That happened to one of my monitors too. When it clicks, does the screen zoom in a little then slowly go back to normal?

No. Its completely pitch black, the little green light doesnt even come on, nothing at all.. just the annoying clicking.

Its broke. Get a new one, unless you want to take a while and learn electronics repairs.

:google: (http://www.google.com). You don't even know what the problem is to begin with, so good luck.

I hope you're not being serious because that would take hours of time, I'm assuming you have no experience in the area. Quit being lazy and buy a new monitor ffs.

Check the plug at the back where the power cord attaches.

Serious biz: DON'T OPEN UP YOUR MONITOR. EVEN IF THEY ARE TURNED OFF AND UNPLUGGED FOR A YEAR EVEN, THEY CAN STILL STORE ENOUGH CHARGE TO EASILY KILL YOU!!!

I just needed to say that.

And I still use a cheap EMachines CRT monitor, and I think it runs great.

Xetsuei™;263580']What the fuck are you talking about? That is completely false, I don't know where the hell you would get something like that.
uhhhhhhhhh (http://www.repairfaq.org/sam/crtfaq.htm#crtsdc)

Don't bother trying to repair it. Just get yourself a cheap LCD screen.

Why dont you prove it for us?

Most CRTs have what you call a bleeder resistor (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bleeder_resistor) which prevents that from happening.

Maybe your power cable into the back of the CRT (assuming that it isn't a fixed cable) isn't inserted fully? Or maybe somewhere in the cable, there is a bad connection because the wire bent too much or just wear and tear?

Check the plug at the back where the power cord attaches.

This thread still going? And just because I have bad rep doesnt mean Im a dumbass, seriously guys.... It wouldnt even be making the clicking noise if it was unplugged because obviously it needs power to even make a dam noise, so yes Ive had it plugged in and un plugged, Ive even tried to do a nes style blow on it, and the electronics tutorial was a joke. I am getting a new one, and also yes the shocks are able to travel, and the hp going blackth is a common defect in the hpv75 (my sisters did the dam same thing a month back).
